It is becoming harder to gain great visibility on LinkedIn. More people are realising the great power of the platform. There is more competition for peoples time and attention. However, the quality of the content is not necessarily on the increase. Therein lies the opportunity for you.
In addition, the majority of people do not understand LinkedIn well enough and are therefore missing out on the fantastic results that are possible
The good news is that there are many things you can do to gain more success on LinkedIn and also improve your quality of your content and its levels of visibility.? Posting content consistently on LinkedIn is still the best way to get noticed, get in front of your ideal audience, build a community and get in bound enquiries .?
The statement above holds true as long as you….
?? know your audience inside out and know what they want to read about/are interested in, the values they might hold dear
?? are clear about your brand and consistently demonstrate it
?? produce relevant, well written content that is a compelling read
?? generate likes and comments from the people you are aiming to attract - go for quality not quantity!
So here we go with the 13 great pieces of advice to help you achieve more success!
1. Ask for some love.
If you don't ask, you won’t get! Getting Likes, Comments or Shares is ESSENTIAL to visibility of your posts.?
Having traction on your posts within 1-2 hours after you have posted, gets your post in front of more people, more impressions, more engagement.??
The more engagement on your post the better, so ask people to like or comment.? Ask a question at the end of your post, invite debate.
2. Don’t post more than once a day.
Frequent posting can be obtrusive and doesn’t get you any more traction. In fact, once you post, the algorithm will focus on that new post, stopping your previous posts exposure in its tracks. if you do decide that you want to post post multiple times a day then you might find that your overall reach is greater but the reach on an individual post will decrease.
Another point to consider here is can you keep up the quality of your content when you are posting multiple times a day? If not, don't do it.
3. Don’t be sleazy.
Do not hard-sell your products/services; remember, always help, educate and inform before making any sales move. In fact if you help, educate and inform people will reach out to you.
4. Earn the right to ask for someone's time and attention.
Show?people you're the real deal - create and share the type of content, case studies and client testimonials that leave no doubt you walk the walk. Give them a reason to stop and read what you have written. Become known for always offering value and people will seek out your posts, hit your 'Follow' button. The more they read and see you, the more trust is being built. Then it is more likely that they will reach out to you when they are ready to buy. And a prospect who is reaching out when they are ready is more likely to buy from you.
5. Be careful who you connect with.
Accept connection requests only from people that you will find of value - clients, potential clients, potential suppliers, possible partners, media, authority's in your industry/the industry in which your clients belong - people who are relevant to your business.
Then, by definition, they will be people interested in your content which means that there is a greater likelihood they will comment on it. If they see and comment on your content then you are starting to build great relationships. And great relationships are the key to your success.
6. Don't post and run!
Post your own newsfeed post, then give love to other people's posts. Go to the Notifications section to see who has posted, drop in on their posts and add your own opinion/comment.?
Or look down your newsfeed to find relevant posts to comment on.
Check on your own post comments and respond to them. Then you can run! But come back later in the day to engage on the rest of the comments on your post.
7. Consider producing a newsletter.
The reach isn't as good as it was when they were launched but they stand a very good chance of getting picked up in search by Google, which your newsfeed posts won't. Nor will your blog posts if you are not very active with SEO.
Write about the issues, subjects etc. that your audience is searching on to get the best results.
This is only possible in Creator mode. See point 9 below
8. Mix it up and test, test, test!
Try different types of posts - text only, text with image, poll, document, video.? Then keep track over a few months to see what works best for you.? Do more of what works!
At the moment, a text post with an image is working well and so are document posts.
9. Turn on Creator Mode?
If you are committed to producing content at least twice a week every week and you have a good network of connections already,?then this might be the right route for you.?
Once you change to Creator mode,? your ‘Connect’ button at the top of your profile will change to ‘Follow’ so your followers should increase and the growth of new connections will slow unless you do a lot of outreach to new people yourself.
Creator mode is all about focusing on your content rather than starting and nurturing relationships.?
One of the main advantages is that you get access to LinkedIn Live video and Audio events.?

If you do make the switch, track the results of your posts following the change and see if you are getting better or worse results.
It's easy to switch back if it is not working for you.
10. Show people who you are.
People do business with people so add some personal posts to your newsfeed. Use video, images of yourself, your team and your life outside of work. Allow people to connect with you emotionally.
11. Structure your posts well.
Make sure that the first line/sentence of your post is intriguing/interesting enough to encourage people to click the ‘see more’. Use single line spacing rather than a solid block of text so it is more inviting and easier to read.
Use bullet points where relevant.
Be focused and clear in what you are writing so that people get what you are trying to say immediately
Keep it short as possible. If you cant keep it short consider turning the post into an article.
Always have a call to action - ask a question relate to the post, invite debate and comments. Be very specific and keep it simple
12. Avoid using loads of hashtags.
This is not Instagram. Up to 5 hashtags is quite adequate!
If you have Creator Mode and have added the 5 hashtags to your profile (under your name and tagline) use these frequently in your posts and add content specific ones to individual posts.
13. Think twice about tagging people.
There is a chance that the algorithm will penalise your post if you have tagged lots of people.? LinkedIn will see this as spam. If you tag people and they don't respond, again it might be seen as spammy content.
And finally, remember that only approximately 5% of members post on LinkedIn - plenty of opportunity for you and me to get noticed on LinkedIn! As long as you are doing all the right things, of course!

1 年Thank you for these useful tips, Tracey! Being intentional with who we connect with can make a positive difference for sure! I'm happy I decided to turn the Creator Mode on a couple of months ago, especially to gain access to LinkedIn events and allow people to follow me when they're interested in my content but not necessarily in directly connecting.
