"I could have easily pushed this episode to next week - but I wanted to walk the vulnerable walk I ask my clients to walk in pursuit of a fulfilling life."
"Show me your bad days. These are the days that count."
... is what I tell people that stumble into the gym after life has chewed them up and spit them out. I can always see it in their faces - and I look forward to these sessions.
Why? Because we can't learn or become stronger from sunshine and rainbow days, and we NEED resistance to become our strongest selves.
I'm starting this newsletter and podcast WAY before I anticipated, and I am able to do so because I let go of perfection (the enemy of progress). Part of the letting go was getting this newsletter out without sending it in for editing.
Inspiration: I observe perfection get in the way of greatness and happiness every day in the client's health pursuits. Waiting for the holidays to end, better weather, or work to slow down - you name it - I've heard it all. They're all valid to a certain extent. But, at the end of the day - a fulfilled life requires that we assess today's 100% effort - and give it all.
The example I gave in this episode: I woke up today with a 41/100 recovery score on my Whoop band. Over the weekend, my wife and I planned a short trip away to celebrate our wedding anniversary but cut the trip short due to our sick toddler. Instead of 2 restful nights, we got one. Upon returning home at 11 PM Saturday, we were up most of the night - and I was driving all over the Peninsula at 3:30 AM to find a 24-hour Pharmacy (San Carlos Walgreens is 24-hour if you ever need one).
How I'm getting by - and even thriving this week: using Whoop to assess my recovery - and dispersing energy accordingly. I could have easily pushed this episode to next week - but I wanted to walk the vulnerable walk I ask my clients to walk in pursuit of a fulfilling life. So, I put out the first podcast episode in about a year - and I'm putting this newsletter out mostly unedited as a plea to you.
I plead with you to do your version of this imperfect action - because on the other side lies progress. Progress breeds confidence, and confidence helps us tap into our highest level of competence. Rinse, repeat, pursue mastery.
