Drones are cool, sure. You may have played with one at a friend's BBQ, or you saw the Super Bowl halftime show, or you've noticed that the media and entertainment industry uses drones to take spectacular bird's-eye view images and videos.
But, did you ever think about the commercial applications of drones, and how much money that was worth?
PwC did and we determined that the global market value for drone-enabled solutions is estimated at $127.3 billion (USD) and is expected to grow 6000% over the next decade.
This $127.3 billion is the value of current businesses, services, and labour that have a high potential for being replaced by drones in the very near future. A little scary, isn't it?
Our team in Poland put together this 'Clarity from above' report, which lays out the key commercial applications of drones by industry. Here's a summary of the industries which will be the most impacted drones and the value of drone powered solutions in those industries:
- Infrastructure - $45.2 bn (36% of the market)
- Agriculture - $32.4 bn (25% of the market)
- Transportation - $13 bn (10% of the market)
- Security - $10.5 bn
- Media & Entertainment - $8.8 bn
- Insurance - $6.8 bn
- Telecommunications $6.3 bn
- Mining - $4.3 bn
Agriculture is an interesting one. I'm excited to be working with Deveron, an enterprise drone powered solutions company which aims to help farmers increase yields and decrease costs through sensors, analytical software and high resolution aerial data which enhances decision making.
Here's a quick video that shows how PwC uses drones and data analytics to help our clients solve their business challenges.
I won't drone on anymore, but if you're interested in learning about the hot new topic and how drones will change our economy, check out the report or send me a message.
P.S. drones can also deliver your pizza and carry people.

7 年I am sorry to say this but this is nothing but pure click bait. Getting to numbers by estimating the potential of the market that drones can replace is lazy and ineffective.
