??IN THE NEWS

#1 FRENCH WATCHDOG OPENS INVESTIGATION INTO SHEIN

This month, the French Ministry of the Economy announced the start of an investigation into the Shein practices and their compliance with international rules and French laws. Based on the gathered data, Shein’s manufacture and supply chain of products seems not to respect human rights, the environment or the interests of consumers. Such a decisive move from a major regulatory body shows that the times are changing and regulations are coming to the fashion industry.?

#2 HOW THE OWO FASHION FESTIVAL IS TRYING TO FIX GHANA’S SECONDHAND CLOTHING PROBLEM?

The second edition of the Owo Fashion Festival encapsulated Ghana’s capital last month, where Accra’s thrift fashion community came together with designers to address the damage of second-hand clothing to the Ghanaian environment, having imported over $214 million of used clothes in 2021 alone. In the heart of Kantamanto, the well-known second-hand market, the Owo Fashion Festival not only creatively highlighted the issue with a fashion show of upcycled designs but also facilitated important conversations between industry players and local vendors of the second-hand market to bring forth sustainable solutions that work for everyone.?

#3 AMID CLIMATE CHANGE CONCERNS, CONSUMERS WILLING TO PAY MORE FOR SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTS?

Based on Bain & Company's latest research, consumers are more willing to pay a premium for sustainable products. Unfortunately, there are still many barriers that persist. Not only is sustainable living perceived as too expensive, but also consumers struggle to identify sustainable products while not trusting corporations' claims. No wonder: over 60% of businesses are falling short of their current sustainability goals, widening the gap between actual progress and public commitments. The good news is that 50% of consumers prioritise sustainability in their purchase criteria and hold greater trust in small, independent businesses.

??IN THE SPOTLIGHT

With the Black Friday ads all over the place, we want to put a few conscious brands in the spotlight that turn this commercial holiday into a powerful statement.?

Ecoalf took Black Friday to highlight the impact fashion overconsumption has on the planet. On the dedicated page, they share uncomfortable figures on how we purchase fashion and what it means if we continue at the same pace.?

For the sixth year in a row on Black Friday, Lucy & Yak is donating to the Fior Di Loto Foundation. This foundation provides education for girls living in the villages surrounding Pushkar in Northwest India and also continues to support them throughout university and beyond.

Fj?llr?ven has rebranded Black Friday to Long-term Investment Friday, encouraging everyone to take a moment and think about their purchases and invest in timeless and durable products.?

??NEW COLLABORATION

We are thrilled to announce our collaboration with State of Fashion, a pioneering fashion platform on a mission to lead the way towards systematic change.

For the upcoming Biennale of State of Fashion 2024, titled 'Ties that Bind', we are honoured to take charge of the Social Media & PR Strategy. Working with the State of Fashion goes beyond a campaign. It's about joining a global movement striving for a new fashion system alongside innovative designers, companies, scientists, educators, consumers and other stakeholders in fashion.

Ultimately, the State of Fashion is more than an international fashion platform: it's a powerful force driving critical reflection, research, and innovation in the industry. Follow them on LinkedIn or subscribe to our newsletter to stay in the loop on their groundbreaking projects and programming, including next year's State of Fashion Biennale in Arnhem, the Netherlands.?
