Hey Dreamer!

It’s the day after Christmas. The day after all the preparation, dinner, gift giving,connecting with family and friends.? It’s time to put you first. I recall a guest speaker for our senior high school class. She was a US Marine Officer. I remember how sharp she was dressed, in her dress blues. But one piece of sage advice that is still with me today after more than thirty- seven years, was her message. This Marine Officer told us how important it was to show up.? Yes, two simple words, “Show Up.”

What she was saying was do what is required to show up. Looking back, she was talking about taking care of herself. Yes, hidden in her message was a call to self-care.?

So dreamer, today you may be pulled into shopping or returning unwanted items at the mall or even searching for a big sale online. You can resist. Show up for you and your self-care today. ? Here are a few thoughts on how you can decline invitations.

Ways to say “No.”

I appreciate you asking, but no thanks

That’s not part of my plan for today.

Thanks, but that's not my thing.

I wish I could, but I don’t want to.

I’ll have a pass.

I would if there were two of me.

Not this year.

That doesn't work for me.

Remember no is a complete sentence and does not require an explanation. You can say yes to simply showing up for yourself today and put you first.?

Remember you can show up anywhere until you show up for yourself first!
