The 12 Days of Christmas is a beautiful traditional Christmas Carol. Is it relevant in today's world? Maybe yes! So, let’s see how we can relate it to our lives, today:
1. A Partridge in a Pear Tree (Self-Reflection)
This is about us being aware of our potential risk, our capabilities and our shortfalls. So, let’s start with self-awareness and build a solid foundation for our own well-being and then of the others around us.
2. Two Turtle Doves (Connection)
Do we network with people today. Let’s not forget that we are social living beings. So, now it’s time to foster meaningful relationships with trust, for emotional support and balance.
3. Three French Hens (Continuous Learning)
Skills what got us here will not get us there. We are in a skill-based world and not qualifications or titles. So, it’s time to prioritize personal growth and stay curious to nourish your mind with lifelong learning as our culture.
4. Four Calling Birds (Feedback and Growth)
One of the biggest challenges of people today - not many want to accept feedback. If we were to grow we can mainly learn from constructive feedback that will guide our development and reduce unwanted stress.
5. Five Gold Rings (Celebrate Achievements)
To grow in our career or in our personal life, we need to celebrate even the small wins. This celebration acts as a booster dose with motivation. Make time to acknowledge your successes and milestones to boost self-esteem.
6. Six Geese a-Laying (Creativity)
Not being satisfied with the status quo is important. Being eager to learn more and to do things differently is so important. So let’s engage in creative activities to express ourselves and in turn this process of trying new things or changing the way we do things can also be a great stress reliver as well.
7. Seven Swans a-Swimming (Grace and Calm)

In this instant- gratifying world, we are faced with too much – too many options, too much choice, and instantly available basket of offerings. Let us practice poise and stay calm in stressful situations and attain mental peace.
8. Eight Maids a-Milking (Self-Care)
Many of us want to have work from home, more family time, more opportunities to be with friends. While this may or may not be always available to us, it’s important for us to allocate time with what we have to cater to self-care. As we look at the new year, it’s time to nurture yourself through rest, relaxation, and self-compassion.
?9. Nine Ladies Dancing (Joy)
One of the most underestimated word in today’s world is joy. True joy is accelerating the happinesses in others’ lives. While we celebrate this season of Christmas, can we embrace activities that bring joy and laughter to enhance not only our well-being but also focuses on the under-privileged, the down-trodden, and the homeless.
10. Ten Lords a-Leaping (Action and Purpose)
Many of us have great plans. We will see many of those come out of the cupboard on January 1st when New Year Resolutions are set. The challenge is always when we forget the plans what we had and not get into executing the same. Let’s make this a perfect time to prepare well for our upcoming goal of the New Year and take action to create a sense of accomplishment as we achieve them.
?11. Eleven Pipers Piping (Inspiration)
Learning from others and being open is a great way to grow. Being inspired by others and take that inspiration to the next level by sharing with others what you’ve learned. So, let’s try to seek sources of inspiration to stay motivated and energized.
?12. Twelve Drummers Drumming (Resilience)
The last day of the 12 ways to build a well-balanced life is to create a culture of resilience. Let’s start today – not being tempted by material choices, not being pulled into artificial social interactions, but instead try focusing on true and personal relationship. So, let’s build resilience through persistence and a steady rhythm in life.
