11/9/24 Being an author isn't optional anymore

Happy Saturday!

This is the time of year when I've finalized my goals, intentions, and objectives for the following year.

Everything from fitness and health, to giving, and yes, business revenue and book writing.

I know that this time every year I hear, "Next year is the year I write my book!"

But as Simon Sinek says, you've gotta start with why.

Everyone's why behind writing a book is different, so obviously I can't give you your why. But I can tell you what won't happen if you don't make writing a book and/or becoming an author (because you don't have to be the one that writes it) a top priority.

First, let me tell you about Phil Whitebloom and his 2024 book, Handling Objections: Clues for Closing the Sale.

Phil joined the Empire Builders Mastermind Class of 2024 (one spot left in the Class of 2025!) with one of his goals to write his book.

It's been two and half months since he published his book and he's selling books, engaging clients, and having great conversations. He made a comment that warmed my heart:

"My book is doing exactly what you said it would do."

Yeah it is!! Woot woot! ??

Others set the same goal and are going into 2026 without a book.

They aren't selling books, engaging new clients, and having great conversations because of their book. It's business as usual, which (as it turns out) isn't necessarily what they had in mind.

Truth time: There's a huge opportunity cost to not becoming an author.

You won't:

• find yourself in the path of the opportunities reserved for authors
• be able to raise your fees and prices (and get more clients, more often, for more money)
• generate the revenue reserved for experts (all experts have one thing in common: a book)

One could argue there's never the perfect time to start a family, train for a marathon, move, and yes, write a book.

To a person, every single author I know is glad they made the time and monetary investment to publish their book.*

*Do I need to beat the "your book must be of the highest quality" drum? A book that has an ineffective cover, hasn't gone through a rigorous editorial process, and is hard to read won't create your desired results!
