11 Ways How Confidence Leads to Success

What is confidence? At times confidence is mistaken for arrogance. There’s a distinct difference in being arrogant and being confident. Just like there’s a difference in being assertive as against being aggressive.

Confidence is the belief in one’s own skills, goals, and ability to succeed. When people feel good about themselves, they do good for themselves and others. Confidence is a key ingredient to the success of your career. The belief factor is the key of confidence and success. This belief in yourself and your capabilities acts like an anchor for a vision, a dream and an outcome. It also fuels you to take action in a consistent manner. When you believe in yourself you are more likely to take action, to stand up and seize the moment. And also, to persevere long after those who doubt themselves.

Confidence at workplace is knowing what you’re good at & the value you provide to the organization. In reality, self-confidence is often an important asset just like your skill and knowledge, or even experience. Anytime we step into the zone of certainty and confidence, it gives us a sense of power, strength and help us to evolve as a better person.

Here are 11 Ways How Self-Confidence Leads to Success:

1.      The Drive to Take Initiative — Confident people are bold; they take initiative and start things. They are not shy about striking out on a new idea even when those around them are still pondering it. They are not shy about implementing any new ideas that can lead to progress in the organization.

 2.      Confidence Helps You Overcome Fear — Oprah Winfrey has said: “It is confidence in our bodies, minds and spirits that allows us to keep looking for new adventures, new directions to grow in, and new lessons to learn - which is what life is all about.” Lack of confidence can lead to paralysis from fear. Fear of failure. Fear of what others think. Fear of the unknown. To succeed, you need the confidence to face and overcome your fears.

3.      The Ability to Stand Up for Oneself — Confidence allows you to stand up for yourself in a fair and consistent manner. Otherwise, you may find yourself unheard or unfairly treated.

4.      The Ability to Say No — Confident people have the ability to say “No” when appropriate. They do not take on unnecessary or inappropriate work or obligations.

5.      The Ability to Say Yes — And at the same time, confident individuals say “Yes” to an opportunity. They do not miss new options because they are shy. We have seen individuals’ pass up opportunities (even promotions) because they didn’t think they were “worthy.”

6.      Belief In Oneself — Self-confidence means believing in yourself. Henry Ford said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t — you’re right.” He was right.

7.      Drop Comfort Zone & Stretch Limits — Confidence lets you know your limits and test them. By stretching your limits, you grow personally and professionally. You are stronger than you think. Confidence help you to push yourself out of your own comfort zone and show that you can face challenging situations with poise. Whenever there is change happening in any organization, other individuals always look for someone that goes with the flow in a positive and confident manner. Being self-reliant enables you to show how you can handle any situation and come out of it successfully.

8.      Confidence Builds Trust & Healthy Relationship— Self-confidence create trust. Everyone wants to be able to trust the people they do business with. When you are confident about what you do and how you take decisions, people around can trust you especially when they want any advice related to the work. As your suggestion and decision counts, you eventually command the respect of your peers and get the rewards you deserve. So, confidence is necessary when it comes to establishing healthy relationship with the fellow workers.

9.      Set the Bar High— Confident individuals set the bar high and aim high. Lack of confidence leads to weak goals, setting the bar too low, and mediocre results.

10.  Ask Questions—Confidence allows you to ask questions, even when others are silent. Confidence even lets you “ask for the job.”

11.  Believe in Winning — Confident people believe in success. And more importantly, they believe in their ability to succeed.

Dalai Lama has said: “With realization of one's own potential and self-confidence in one's ability, one can build a better world.” So, let’s build awesome self-confidence and a better world!
