11 reasons why EOS might not be right for your organisation.

Whilst I love EOS and genuinely believe in the power of the process and the tools, it isn’t right for every organisation. I would never try and convince someone to implement EOS when it wasn’t right for them. With this in mind, I thought I’d share some of the reasons why EOS might not be right for you…

  1. Your leadership team is not open-minded or willing to be vulnerable and honest. EOS has 5 Healthy Rules which are implemented in sessions – you need to be able to stick to these…

  1. You are not ready for challenging questions. As a coach, I am well known for asking challenging questions. I often ask questions that no one else has thought about. Combine this with the process and tools of EOS, and you will need to be ready to be asked those challenging questions that will allow you to make the progress in your organisation that you desire. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable.
  2. You are a control freak! If you are not prepared to delegate and elevate, EOS is not going to work for you. You will need to be prepared to allow your leadership team to have responsibility for leading, managing, and holding their team accountable. You can’t do it all.
  3. You are closed to new ideas or different ways of thinking. Implementers bring objective facilitating – they can help you to see how many problems you have been contributing to. They can help you get down to the root of the issue much faster than if you were trying to muddle through alone – but it does require you to be open-minded and ready for those challenging questions. Likewise, if you think you know better and aren’t interested in an outsider’s perspective, EOS isn’t for you.
  4. You are not willing to invest. EOS is not cheap. But if you are expecting growth to come without investment then you won’t be able to see the value that EOS can bring you. I truly believe in the process and the value that it will bring your organisation, and this is why I am confident to offer a satisfaction guarantee. At the end of the session, if you feel you did not get value then you do not pay. Simple. You have nothing to lose.
  5. You lack the stomach to hold other people to account and have difficult conversations where necessary. I’m sorry but EOS doesn’t conduct difficult employee conversations for you. But the process of EOS forces them to happen – if you have employees who are not aligned with your organisation’s values, and not accountable for the commitments of their role, then you need to have those difficult conversations. EOS will give you the tools, process, and language to do this, but if you are unable to have those conversations you have a problem.
  6. You aren’t able to hold yourself to account – or willing to give permission to others to hold you to account. Without accountability from you and your leadership team, EOS will fail.
  7. You like to be in denial. If you don’t want to face up to where things could be improved, where you may have made mistakes or not been working optimally then steer clear of EOS. EOS will require you to take a deep look at what you have been doing and what needs to change. It’s not about blame or finger-pointing, but rather acknowledging where things need to change and what needs to happen to get you there.
  8. You aren’t interested in growing – One of the EOS values is grow or die. If you are happy and content with being exactly where you are, with no interest in improving, growing, or developing then implementing EOS probably isn’t for you.
  9. You like to take shortcuts. If you are implementing EOS then you need to follow all the steps for the proven process to be fully successful. If you want to pick and mix the bits that you think you want or need, then this isn’t for you.
  10. You want quick fixes and instant results – In Traction by Gino Wickman, he says ‘ Each company moves at its own pace, forcing it to move faster can be damaging. It takes time to implement the stages and tools well. Trying to rush is not the aim of the game.

If you’ve got this far and you haven’t qualified yourself out, I’d like to invite you to book a free 90-minute meeting with me where you receive lots of information and valuable tools that you can start using in your business. During this meeting, you will get the rundown of what EOS is, how and why the process works, and be introduced to the tools and resources EOS uses to help you along the way.
