11 puppies…what’s one more?
A 12-day old puppy was carried through our doors. She had been rejected by her mother, which can happen for several reasons…perhaps the pup was too small and deemed unlikely to survive, or perhaps the mother was stressed or unwell. Whatever the reason, this delicate newborn wouldn’t survive without help.
But this puppy had good timing. We just so happened to have another mama dog in our care, named Luna. She had recently given birth to eleven beautiful puppies, exactly this orphan’s age! We hoped she would accept one more. It was worth a try.
When the pup was presented to Luna, she accepted her immediately and protected her as though she were one of her own. This once-lonely puppy suddenly has a new family of twelve, as well as an attentive foster who will help ensure she gets all the nourishment, medical attention and round-the-clock care that she needs.
The puppies are getting stronger each day, beginning to explore their pen and show their own individual personalities. It just goes to show that no matter how alone an animal may seem, they always have us – and you!
