11 Powerful Books That Will Change Your Life For The Better In 2020

You're desperate to be exceptional, and you're obsessed with getting better. You want to be a better person, a better friend, and of course you want to get better at your job.

So where do you start? You must become obsessive about reading. There is no other way.

" Reading is essential for those who seek to rise above the ordinary.” – Jim Rohn

Here's a list of 11 powerful books that will change your life for the better.

  1. Can't Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds by David Goggins - I first learned about David Goggins on the Joe Rogan podcast. A former Navy Seal, David's story is gut wrenching, powerful and real. In fact, I believe David is the most real "motivational speaker" out there. If you need to get smacked in the mouth, and realigned with what's important in life, then read this book. At least follow him on Instagram.
  2. 12 Rules for Life An Antidote to Chaos By Jordon Peterson - another Joe Rogan discovery on the list. Be warned, this is not a light read. Peterson is one of the most compelling thinkers of our time. If you're looking for fluffy motivational platitudes, move along. If you're ready to dive deep, get introspective and contemplative, then have at it. By the end you'll feel spent, and rejuvenated. It's worth a second read. It's also worth tracking down some of Petersons lecture dates to hear him live.
  3. Stillness is the Key by Ryan Holiday - I'm a Ryan Holiday fan, and recommend all of his books. I also recommend you sign up for his newsletter. Each book seems to strike at the psyche of the modern day person. Our daily struggles, or our need to temper our egos. Ryan sees that we must all bring stillness into our lives, and adopt stoicism as a main tenant in our lives. I'm picking up what he's putting down. I can't wait to read his next one.
  4. Meditations by Marcus Aurelius -- These writings inspired Ryan Holiday's to write, The Ego is the Enemy. Flip through the pages, and find truth. Aurelius lived in a different time (born 121 AD) yet you can feel his modern day humanity in his writing. It's shocking how we all toil with the same emotions. It's also shocking to hear how he was able to reel in his darkest nature, and create good.
  5. DMT: The Spirit Molecule by Rick Strassman -- Another nod to the great and powerful Joe Rogan. If you listen to his podcast, you'll learn of Joe's intrigue with DMT. I had no idea what DMT was. Then I learned about this book. It will challenge your perception of reality. The book blew my mind. If you're looking for a mind bender. This is your book. No matter what you think about DMT, you will leave this book viewing your world from a different lense. Strap in. It's going to be a wild one.
  6. Waking Up: A Guide to Spirituality Without Religion By Sam Harris -- Yep, Joe Rogan again. Sam Harris may be one of the smartest people Ive ever had the pleasure to hear speak. His views on spirituality without religion will challenge and inspire. If you're interested in mediation, you will love this book.
  7. The Go-Giver by Bob Burg and John David Mann -- If you're looking for your next business book to inspire you and keep you engaged, then please read this book. In this light, easy to read parable, the authors pass along their most profound business lessons. Cliff notes? Be good to people, and it will come back to you. This book has been a game changer in my life and career. I cannot recommend this book enough. I read it in one sitting. You have no excuse. Read it, and love it, and then pass it on. Great gift for anyone in business that feels stuck.
  8. Becoming Supernatural: How Common People Are Doing the Uncommon By Dr. Joe Dispensa I'm a student of meditation. Dr. Dispensa's books were the first to speak about neuroplasticity. Giving meditation a shot in the arm with scientific research that touts its many benefits. Read this, and then read the rest of Dr. Dispensa's books. You'll be happy you did.
  9. The Energy Bus: 10 Rules to Fuel Your Life, Work, and Team with Positive Energy by Jon Gordon - another parable that's light and entertaining. If you believe in the power of a positive mindset, you'll love this book. Another great gift for the grumpy colleague in your life that may need a pick me up.
  10. The Charisma Myth by Olivia Fox Cabane I read Olivia's book years ago with a skeptical view. Since then I've applied her theories in real life. They work. Learn how to create rapport by mimicking your partners body language. Then learn how to make appropriate eye contact. Each scientifically proven tip will help you become more charismatic, guaranteed.
  11. The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo --I read this book three years ago, and I'm still purging. The book has helped me feel more organized. It's also helped me get better at being less stressed when dressing for work. It's also helped my entire family. My little girls (11, and 8) have found joy in purging old toys, and clothing. Simple tips like how to fold your clothing properly are great. Even better are the techniques that will challenge you to thank inanimate objects so that you may purge them from your life. It can be a bit off putting to realize how much emotion can be involved in the things that surround us. Follow Kondo's rules and take a step to a lighter and happier way of life.

If you can't find the time to read any of these books, then I recommend you at least attempt to listen to the audiobook versions.

If you have a book recommendations for me, please add in the comments below. Happy reading!
