Socialinsider
Simplified and straightforward social media analytics for busy social media marketers.
Hello and welcome to the 11th issue of The Social Dot newsletter. I’m Andreea, your local social media expert, and together we shall connect the dots of the social media world.
The future is video, and social media people know it well (or they should).?
Although some people are still hung up on static content, the reality is that 93% of social media marketers swear by video as a vital part of the social media marketing strategy.? And our own data points in the same direction.?
Due to people’s shorter attention span, videos has become a top choice for users when scrolling through their newsfeed on social media, regardless of the platform.
Why am I mentioning this?
Well, because that explains why, 3 years after they first made it to Instagram, Reels are still going strong (holding their ground even in the face of the mighty TikToks !).
In one of our Teach Me sessions, our guest Mike Blake-Crawford confirmed that Reels is indeed the most engaging post type on Instagram and gave us some pointers on how to best approach content creation for this platform.?
4 tips for creating highly engaging content for Instagram
Reels might be the best performing content type on Instagram, but does that mean you should put all your eggs in one basket (or invest all your efforts and budget into Reels), disregarding all other post types?
Absolutely not.
Like many other social media apps available right now, Instagram offers a whole suite of features for content creators.?
My advice? Use them all!?
Don’t just chase what’s currently popular. Use the platform’s large variety of features to create diverse content and see what performs best. Worst case scenario: you’ll have some posts that perform poorly.
The upside is that you’ll find out exactly what works for your unique brand personality and for the audience you’re trying to attract.
This approach will also guarantee that you don’t have boring, predictable content.

If there’s one thing we know about people in the 21st century - it’s that they are lazy and emotional. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing. After all, laziness and emotion have led to the world’s biggest inventions.?
Knowing this, try to balance bite-sized facts and information with emotional storytelling to feed into people’s need for instant gratification and meaningful stories.?
Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to keep creating content all the time. There will be times for content creation and times for content curation. And you have to decide when’s the perfect time for each.?
You will benefit very much from analyzing your performance using a social media analytics app like Socialinsider - to spot patterns, identify top performing posts and check on your competitors data.
All that being said, you should still prioritize Reels in your Instagram content strategy. They require more time and effort but with the right approach, you can make Reels your most powerful social media marketing tool.
Start with a strong hook / title, follow up with a strong dose of suspense (listicles are a good idea here) and end your Reels with a memorable sign off.
And of course, don’t forget to add a trending audio to please the algorithm gods.?
Pro tip: If you’re feeling uninspired, just pick some popular Reels in your industry and reverse engineer them to reveal the recipe for success.
