Connecting talented candidates across the UK with their ideal roles since 2009
Are you guilty of interview overkill or radio silence? New survey shows lengthy hiring processes are a blocker in securing top talent
While candidates can undergo up to four interview rounds in today’s job market, a recent survey* polling 1,035 UK workers found that a huge 52% are hesitant to attend more than two interviews for a job offer, with only 27% willing to participate in up to three interviews, and merely 12% in four or more.?
Meanwhile, while some roles may require fewer interview stages, slow communication and decision-making can result in top talent exiting the process, with the stats showing that on average, candidates lose interest if they wait more than nine days for a post-interview response, with workers aged 45 and over losing patience after eight days.?
As we move into 2024, a streamlined hiring process with few interview stages and effective communication is crucial for attracting top talent, minimising costs, and maintaining a positive employer brand. A concise process demonstrates respect for candidates, secures talent swiftly, and facilitates quicker decision-making, all while enhancing the overall candidate experience and market reputation.

Stats reveal 34% of people avoid work socials due to alcohol
If your office is anything like JARS HQ, you'll already be on the countdown to the festive party period! ?? While this can be a great way for a team to let their hair down and celebrate the success of another year gone by, it's important to consider that not every employee will be drinking alcohol at these events, and in fact, new stats revealed in a recent survey by Easy Offices, highlight that some people will avoid work events for this very reason.?
84% of UK socials currently involve alcohol, and while this rarely causes an issue if a company ensures socials are inclusive by avoiding focusing parties around alcohol consumption, offering alternatives to alcohol and planning activities that don't involve drinking, unfortunately, 43% of UK workers say they feel pressure to drink at work socials, and 34% will avoid work socials altogether because they know alcohol is going to be there.
Coupling this stat with the news that the Chartered Management Institute urged UK companies to cut down on alcohol served at work events earlier this year, after survey results revealed a link between alcohol consumption and harassment or inappropriate behaviour cases, there's certainly cause for organisations to consider how inclusive their planned events are prior to party season.
We'd love to get our network's thoughts on this topic! Has your organisaiton embraced inclusivity? Maybe you've avoided work socials yourself for the reasons highlighted above? Let us know in the comments! ??
