The 11 Critical Business (and Life) Lessons You MUST Know In Order To Scale Your Business.
What I discovered from being dead-broke and hating life, to running an 8-figure business in under 24 months and loving it:
1. TAKE 100% RESPONSIBILITY FOR ALL OUTCOMES ??
If you aren't happy with where you are, the first thing you need to do is accept that you are the ONLY person who can change it, and no one else. Realize this, and then take action.
2. BE POSITIVE ??
Sounds cliché but you have to have radical belief in yourself and your ability to bring what you are working on, to fruition. By having that positive framework set up, things will align and you will see the 1% of how something will work rather than the 99% of why something won't work (which is how most people see things).
3. ADOPT HABITS ??
Positives habits lay out the path for you to win on a daily basis. There are two habits specifically I have found that set me up for success:
a) Developing a morning routine that takes care of your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being first thing in the morning. This enables you to be fully committed to focusing on the work that brings you closer to success.
b) Eating the frog. Make sure that the business work you spend your time and energy on is, in fact, going to move the business forward (this is most likely NOT answering emails or getting stuck messing with landing pages)
4. SET 3-MONTH GOALS ??
We tend to set goals that are too far out in the future which makes it all too easy to procrastinate. Set a shorter goal, ideally 3 months out, and you will actually make more progress in that time frame while still being able to see the finish line in sight.
5. NO WHITE SPACE ??
Look at your calendar, are there empty spaces throughout your days/weeks? If so, you’re not prioritizing enough of your day. Fill those spots with something productive that will move the needle forward in your business. Make sure none of your time is wasted and be VERY intentional with your time.
6. WORK YOUR BUTT OFF ??
Let me be real, if you want to build a lifestyle business, then just get a job instead. Nothing wrong with that, but you'll likely just waste your time. However, if you want to build a business that provides real value to customers, you have to work really… hard. I don't know a single successful entrepreneur that didn't pay with sweat and tears to get there. Stop thinking about hacks and instead work REALLY hard doing the things that matter the most.
7. DOUBLE DOWN ON WHAT WORKS ??
When you find something that works, double down and drive it as hard as possible. A lot of people spend a lot of their time focusing on what's not working and they lose sight of what is working. They step over a $1 bill in order to pick up the quarter on the ground. There's value in knowing what doesn't work, but more so in knowing what does.??
8. BREAK THINGS OFTEN ??
Conflicting with #7, just because you having something working now, doesn't mean you shouldn’t try to break it. Everything can be improved, even the good stuff. Identify what you could do better in your business and push the envelope of what's possible. Ask yourself, is this truly the best that can be done? Test your hypothesis.
9. ALWAYS BE A STUDENT ??
This is especially important when you are trying to achieve something really big and great. Realize there is always something you can learn from another business, founder, friend, book, or coach. Take those opportunities. There is always something that can be expanded upon or built on top off. Never think for a second you know all the answers to something. Keep pushing yourself, keep learning, and always be a student of the business.
10. PUSH OUTSIDE YOUR COMFORT ZONE ??
You will experience the most growth by pushing outside of your comfort zone than if you were to always play it safe. Constantly monitor where you are with the edge of your comfort zone, and keep pushing yourself out of it.
11. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH LIKE-MINDED PEOPLE ??
The world we live in is flooded with a ton of negativity that people spew around. Protect yourself by making sure you are surrounded by people who will support you, understand what you are doing, and will have your back when those icky feelings of self-doubt creep in (because it will happen, often)
Make sure to:
a) have an accountability partner that can keep you accountable for the day to day, and that you can bounce ideas off of.
b) go to conferences, learn from people ahead of you and make connections.
c) attend masterminds, get 1-on-1 and group help, and give back to other business owners.
d) get coaches that have walked the path before you, and can help you get up the mountain quicker.
Hindsight will always be 20/20, but if there's anything you take away from me it can at least be to learn from my journey.
