10th anniversary of National Apprenticeship Week

For the last 10 years there have been historic investments in the National Apprenticeship System ($730 Million) which indicate an ambitious commitment to access to quality jobs for workers across the United States. Registered apprenticeship (RA) is an industry-driven, high-quality workforce strategy for public, private, and non-profit employers to meet their business needs and develop talent. As an earn-and-learn model, RA pairs paid employment with meaningful career-related education and training. DOL reports that 94% of apprentices who complete their RA retain employment with an average annual salary of $80,000.

As detailed by DOL, there are seven key elements of all RA programs:

1.???? Industry vetted, approved and led

2.???? Paid job

3.???? Structured on-the-job learning/mentorship

4.???? Supplemental education

5.???? Diversity?

6.???? Quality & safety?

7.???? Credentials?

ICF is a leader in RA programs at the federal, state, and local levels, providing subject matter expertise, project management, and convening internal and external partners in support of RA uptake and expansion. Our expertise stems from more than two decades of building, scaling, promoting, and implementing RA among new and traditional industries with federal, state, and commercial clients. We are committed to making meaningful change at the national and local levels.

  • Our staff serve as coaches to 82 Apprenticeship Building America grantees funded by DOL. In the first 24 months of the contract, we’ve assisted in the development and placement of 2,500 pre-apprentices and 1,000 apprentices in various industries.
  • As part of DOL’s One Workforce grant, we have served more than 800 individuals and more than 60 employers. Of the participants who completed on-the-job training and RAs: 8% were unemployed 27+ weeks, 12% experienced employment barriers, 20% were classified as low income, and 27% had no college degree.
  • As a cybersecurity apprenticeship intermediary, we have recruited and placed more than 1,200 youth apprentices (ages 16-21) in information technology careers.
  • We supported the California Advanced Lighting Controls Training Program since 2010 and has trained, employed, and tracked employment for more than 9,500 apprentices.
  • We trained more than 2,500 apprentices in Nevada and California through the Western Electrical Cybersecurity and Training contract.
  • For the California Workforce Development Board, Energy Storage and Microgrid Training, we upskilled more than 700 nontraditional apprentice electricians in how to design and install energy storage technologies.

We’re proud to support our clients as they implement innovative solutions to meet the evolving needs of American workers and the U.S. economy. Happy National Apprenticeship Week! #NAW2024
