£10.55... An important number to Londoners.

It’s the hourly pay rate promoted by the Living Wage Foundation as the liveable income needed to work and live in our Capital city.

Yes, it’s 28% higher than the current minimum wage (£8.21) but reams of compelling data collected by the LWF show it’s not just the ethical thing to do but there are great business reasons too.

Full information on the upsides can be found here (www.livingwage.org.uk/good-for-business)

Today, over 5,000 accredited employers use this positive pay practice and it’s growing.

gigl is a video-based mobile staffing platform replacing wordy job descriptions and faceless CVs with real people through 60-second videos.

Essentially, through the app, great employers and great workers can meet directly.” says gigl’s CEO, Dan Hudson.

As an entity, gigl is LWF-accredited and we love working with companies with the same ethical approach to good business.” Hudson adds.

One such gigl-Business client is Mercato Metropolitano.

As the UK's largest sustainable community-engaged street food market with a large site in Elephant & Castle (and Mayfair tabled for later this month) they appreciate the need for high-quality, happy and committed crew members.

People in customer-facing hospitality roles need to be happy. Happy staff have a good energy, which is infectious for our customers.” says MM’s Regional Operations Manager, Faraj Faraj.

Keeping staff engaged and happy is no easy task. At MM they balance interesting roles, career development within the company, and proper pay. For example, MM Angels (their customer-facing hospitality staff) are paid a minimum of £10.55 per hour - significantly more than the minimum wage.

This keeps people’s minds from just making ends meet and allows them to focus on giving their best at work. It also means that staff turnover is far lower than their competitors and the calibre of the staff is greater than the competitors too. Everybody wins!

Faraj notes “We are excited to be launching our Mayfair site at the end of September and are looking to hire another 25 people! Applications can be made today through gigl.

Using the gigl app and paying a minimum of £10.55 per hour, they have positioned themselves well to hit this target. Perhaps it’s the crew for you?

gigl’s primary focus is on providing a technical solution to help good people and good employers find each other in an ethical and mutually beneficial way.

The novel approach using short video may prove to be a game-changer. Give it a go today!

Mercato Metropolitano's quality of food and service is beyond anything else in London. I'm not surprised to learn that they pay their people properly (and use innovative way to hire the right talent ??)
