10:31
What time is it where you are now? Here by me it is 10:31. I sure hope it is 10:31 on your side of the world as well!
I find myself so many times in a situation where I am not sure if what I do is right in the eyes of the Lord. I find myself in so many places, not being sure if this is where God wants me to be. I also find myself talking about so many things, not being convinced if it is what Jesus wants me to talk about.
Surely there must be an easier way to be convinced and sure of what I do, where I am and what I speak, that it is within the will of God, not just for my life, but in general. Do you also get into situations when you are not sure if what you do is right?
My brother in Christ, Pastor David November, talked to a group of teens yesterday about this, knowing that many teens struggle with these questions as well. Should I go to this party? Is it right to smoke? Is it a good thing to hang out with that group of friends? Should I be listening to this music? Can I go to that concert? Is it wrong to question my parents? Am I allowed to dishonour my boss? Is it wrong to get upset and act in a violent way toward that taxi that cut me of in traffic? Can I not just enjoy myself this one time and get drunk?
Let me tell you why it is 10:31 where I am. 1 Corinthians 10:31 reads: “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. No matter what situation I find myself in, where I am or what decision I need to make, I look at the “watch of God†and for these specific set of questions, the time is 10:31 from the book of 1 Corinthians. If in doubt, ask yourself this simple question: Whatever it is you want to do, talk about, go to, visit, act upon, will it glorify God?
Brothers and sisters in Christ, we sometimes complicate life so much, while it is actually very simple. If we spend time in the Word then we will get our answers to life’s questions, such as this one. Now let’s ask these questions again. Should I listen to this music? If the music will not glorify God, then no. Should I drink or smoke? Will it glorify God if I do that? No! Should I be hanging out with friends that gets drunk all the time, use drugs and curse? Will it glorify God? No, it won’t!
We sometimes do end up in situations where we could not have known what the end result would have been, so if you do, then check your watch, and tell your friends it is 10:31 and you must leave. They don’t even need to know what it means! If you are a group of friends that ends up in the wrong place, you can simply say to each other that it is 10:31 and all of you will know it’s time to go!
So, my brother and sister, what time is it where you are right now?
Be blessed,
Jaco van As
