Poliigon has just launched its new free section with 103 models, textures and HDRIs. Including a photoscanned sofa , cinnamon rolls , grapes , candles , reclaimed brick , boucle fabric , marble and much more . All are 100% free to use for commercial use.

Finally a good hair capture solution

Photogrammetry has always struggled with the fine detail of hair, which is why actors often wear rubber caps in scanning booths. This paper proves that it’s now possible to create a base strand reconstruction. It’s in the early stages obviously, but with further development it could save artists hours of manual grooming work.

Pixar demonstrates that AI can be a force for good

The characters in Elemental are simulated then stylized using an AI that was trained on their own internal art. From a new interview : “We gave it some images that we painted and asked the volumetric simulation to move toward these images… we felt comfortable using this volumetric style transfer because the target images are hand-painted by our artists.”
