10/27/24 Ever say “I hate networking” to yourself? Read this.

Reading time: One Facebook minute ??

You know what most people do at 2am when they can’t sleep? Scroll social media.

You know what empire builders do? They lie awake thinking: “I need to network more … but ugh, I hate networking.”

(I can't be the only one?!)

Here’s the mindset shift that can change everything for you—and why I wrote Business Networking--when you realize:

Networking isn’t about working a room. It’s about building relationships that matter.

Think about it:

  • When you meet a potential new friend, you don’t call it networking
  • When you introduce two people who could help each other, you don’t call it networking
  • When you grab coffee with someone whose work you admire, you don’t call it networking

Yet these are all forms of networking—and you’re probably already good at them.

One reader, Michael, told me:

“I used to break into a cold sweat at networking events. After reading your book [Business Networking], I realized I’d been overthinking it. Now I just focus on having meaningful conversations. I actually look forward to it now.”

The mindset chapter tackles:

  • Why “fake it till you make it” is terrible advice
  • How to network authentically (even if you’re an introvert)
  • The simple mental shift that makes networking feel natural

Because here’s the truth: The best networkers aren’t the loudest in the room. They’re the ones who’ve mastered the art of genuine connection.

Genuine connection means you deeply care about the person you're with, and you want to uncover how you can help them (they could hire you, you could make an introduction, or something else equally as powerful).

Your mindset about networking is so incredibly powerful--how's yours?

To your networking mindset,
