1012 N. Carolina, Mason City, Iowa

Another event-filled day came and went, and fortunately I managed to get everything I had on my plate completely taken care of before closing up shop on this second Friday of the month.

First and foremost, I had to make a quick trip out of town to pick up some documents at a client's home, and while driving there, I was so much wishing I had my camera with me because there was some pretty impressive ground fog in the low areas which was creating absolutely stunning sights by the way in which it had created long serpentine stretches of heavy fog in several areas. One of those sights was forevermore burned into my memory banks.

Upon return to the city, my next little chore was to get a large watermelon delivered to some grateful people, and then after, dropping off a generous number of ripened pears to another person who was more than willing to put them to the most generous good use. As I've mentioned many times, there's no reason why we should allow good produce to go to waste, and especially because there are those who're not fortunate enough to have large gardens or orchards from which they can help sustain themselves. My only caution when gifting produce, is that they take all they want, but be sure and put to good use all they take.

Once all those deliveries were made, I went ahead and started working on a file for today's new listing which I managed to get signed-up during the Noon hour and happens to be located at 1012 N. Carolina here in Mason City. While visiting with one of the sellers, I mentioned my having already done my price comparisons in that district which is why we decided it best to list it at $124,500 which is below the prices of those competing listings.

There are many impressive features about the two bedroom home which'll help with getting it sold, and they being the many new windows, gorgeous fireplace in the living room, new furnace, new appliances, open floor plan, larger than average bedroom sizes, laundry hook-ups on main floor, central air, double garage with opener, permanent siding, partially finished basement, fenced yard with plenty of room for flower beds and vegetable gardens, and of course it being in walking distance to East Park, the swimming pool, the nature trail and our Winnebago River. Considering what similar homes have been selling for, I'd say we have it priced to sell quickly, so if you know anyone looking for something like it, please have them give me a jingle. Tonight's photo is an exterior shot of it, and if you want to see the remainder of those I took, click on the photo and it'll trigger a slide-show. First thing tomorrow morning I'll be sending it out into the cyber-universe.

The bulk of my afternoon was taken up with getting the home's rooms measured, photos taken, and then logging everything into my computer. I was having a small problem with the functions on my camera, but in the end, I manged to get what I needed. Truth be told, I've always admired that home whenever I'd notice it when driving down North Carolina, and mostly because if its interesting design, along with the generous size of the fenced yard. I'm hoping most people take a look at the interior photos because the home doesn't appear that big from the street.

Once I had my new listing's information loaded, I went back to my 'workbench' and continued on with my end of month accounting which I'd not been able to get completed until this afternoon, and only because I've been busy with more pressing things like selling and listing homes.

I did finally get squared away with the music I'll be playing on the 24th of this month over at The First Congregational Church, and mostly because I made a personal trip over to their office, just so we'd all be on the same page. At least I won't be forced to go digging online for sheet music of hymns I've never once before heard or played.

I got a little giggle this afternoon when reading the remarks on one particular listing which were overly flattering, definitely unctuous, along with being on the borderline of downright sickening. My goodness! I'm beginning to wonder if some of these real estate agents are putting AI to use, or they've hired some flowery novelist to create their listing remarks. After taking a good look at the interior photos of that particular home, I'd say they must've had a double layer of rose-colored glasses on when they listed it. In my estimation, that residence is in need of at least a good $100K in upgrades before I'd even begin to be 'wowed' over it. The next time I run into that agent, I'll have to make a few cautionary remarks regarding the overuse of adjectives.

My last stop of the day, was to go over to Hogan Bremer Funeral Home with memorial in hand, to pay my respects to Larry Gray and his family over the death of Donna Gray who was his wife of over sixty years. I was glad to see there was good crowd, and happy I was able to offer a few consoling words to Larry whom I've known since I first started selling homes in North Iowa. For many years, he was always the 'go to' local banker who had a fine-tuned ability to 'read' loan applicants. I dare say he likely held a record in our City for having the fewest foreclosures. I'll never forget the time when he was talking about a certain 'nameless' person who later left more than one bank on the hook by saying, "Whenever doing business with people the likes of him, is similar to going into a 'issing' match with a skunk, because in the end, you'll find yourself having been sprayed." I was glad to hear she passed quietly in peace.

Tonight's One-liner is: The person who's only pleasure in life is making money, weighs less on the moral scale than an thimbleful of lint.
