101 things for kids to do when not at school.

101 things for kids to do when not at school.

School hols? Virus alert? Don’t let that stop the fun of learning. There are so many fun ways to learn and the world is full of great stuff to do rather than flick fingers over phones, watch TV and go on gaming platforms.

We have a list of brrrrilliant ideas, but do not let this limit you. Make up your own. Obviously, some depend on you having certain things, but others need very little. Be creative.

Let us know what you do. Send us photos.

Here’s our starter for 10 to get you going. Look out for the next 10!

1. Make a model out of household waste: boxes, bottles, card etc. How about a model castle, aeroplane, car, house, garden?

2. Make a model of your head or someone else’s. Use a balloon, old football or squashed up newspaper to cover in papier maché and then add features and paint. Make your own Madame Tussauds!

3. Origami! Why not start with the fortune teller many of us made as kids? Here’s a You Tube link, but there are so many more… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAhiIlTxUYA

4. Decorating? Why not get the kids involved in some decorating? Teach them a great life skill.

5. Plan a local walk and walk it. Investigate it on the internet. Set up a challenge to count/spot certain birds, trees, house features etc. on route.

6. If you have the skills, teach your kids how to check the car’s oil, wash wipe, change a wheel, fit a wiper blade.

7. As above but with a bike; change inner tubes, fix a puncture, change a tyre, put a chain back on, check the brakes.

8. Do historic research about the town/village/area you live in. Who is the most famous person from the area? Did anything happen near you in bygone times?

9. Take a photo from the same spot twice every day for a month. Make it into a time lapse movie.

10.              Photography challenge. Who can take great photos of; flowers, animals, objects, faces, people, houses, the sky, trees, etc. Extend this challenge to friends.
