Oops! I thought was done with this list?! After completing my challenge of impossibly picking 101 movies from the great movies from the past and current centuries, I asked myself why having a 101-list with only 101 movies while I can make 102, 103, or even 1001? Who said a 101-list should have only 101 entries? And why am I doing this from the first place? Is it to impress my wife with my commitment and consistency? Is it because I am talking about something I love and I want to keep my mind into its loop? Or is it for the close-to-none of those who actually read my words or give a damn at all? Art, before anything else, is in the eye of the beholder. I am writing this knowing that most likely not a soul is going to pass from here or make it until this point, but I am, nonetheless, writing it with a heart full of gratitude and and passion. Stanley Kubrick would eventually go on and make 'Barry Lyndon' instead, which takes place just before the time of Napoleon. Which is why it would always be the closest to my favorite film of all time!
So which is it? Which is the greatest movie of all time? What's that even mean? Stanley Kubrick has thought me that, and after experiencing and immersing in 101+ great cinema from the east and from the west, from yesterday and from today, the best film is yet to be made, it's the film I am dreaming of making myself, it's the next film.?
Stanley Kubrick's Napoleon is a historical epic that never saw the light of the sun, a groundbreaking biopic of a man on top of his world by a filmmaker on top of his game, an unconcieved masterpiece of cinema that was kept on the shelf of unrealized masterpieces.
