This year KLM Open is fighting single use plastic
No plastic water bottles are sold to the public for the first time during the 100th edition of the KLM Open. The players and volunteers also receive a reusable bottle that can be filled with water on several points in the course for free.
In this way the oldest international sports tournament in the Netherlands wants to contribute to the awareness of the use of plastic. Fifteen different locations on Open site have clearly identified MTD (Make the Difference).
This puts an end to the sale of small plastic bottles for the public, the use of bottles by volunteers and the hundreds of plastic bottles that the players eat on the court. In recent years, an average of around 12,000 small water bottles have been purchased per KLM Open. Title sponsor KLM and partner ING Private Banking make reusable bottles available for players and volunteers. Visitors can bring their own bottle or buy a reusable bottle in The Village at the KLM Open.
