1000Km of commuting by bike
After several months of cycling on a regular basis I have hit racked up 1000 kilometres on my bike. This is a good time to review the good and bad bits of commuting to work.
The good
- I arrive at work awake, in a good mood and raring to go
- I have lost half a stone in weight
- I feel fitter
- I arrive at work in a consistent time since if I hit queuing traffic, I just fly past the waiting cars and arrive at the normal time.
- I am much happier
- Saving money on petrol
- Better for the environment
The bad
- Most cars are really considerate but I have had a few close calls with some idiots
- Once I felt ill at work and went home early, on my bike it was hard to ride and in the end I had to call someone to pick me up
- I have been in torrential downpours a few times which soaked me to the bone. (I do carry spare cloths in case of this)
I would say the main benefit is that it makes me much happier. I tend to vary my route home depending on weather and time limits. Sometimes I go cross country where I see wildlife such as deer, birds of prey and lots of rabbits. It just makes for a much more pleasant way to travel.
My colleges at inni Accounts are also joining too now, Henry has setup our cycle to work scheme and several colleges are now cycling in or planning to.

6 å¹´Must say, I much preferred cycling to work than driving.? Best trade was when I swapped my 3-Series for a folding bike.? Rode it that much I snapped it! :)
