Confucius once said, "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step". This saying is very much true today, but instead of a single step one needs to take multiple steps.
Yes, this is what the doctors tell you to do every day, walk at least 10,000 steps and this was re-iterated in a conclave which I attended lately.
?I recently got an opportunity to attend a 'Great Place To Work?' wellness event which was an eye-opener for not only me but for all the fellow delegates who were at the same time and space. The event was organized by ‘Great Place To Work?’ and looked at various perspectives on wellness.
Some amazing learnings came my way, and this event became one of the serendipities that keep on happening in this journey called life.
This event was titled as ‘The Wellness Confluence’ and it had speakers from all walks of life. We had speakers like Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, Chairman and?Cardiac Surgeon at Narayana Health, Jonty Rhodes, South African cricketer and now a coach, Dr Rahul Kalia, Head-Health & Wellness, Bosch, Harshvendra Soin, Global CPO, Tech Mahindra and Tahira Kashyap Khurrana, author, filmmaker and wife of Ayushmann Khurana and many other eminent leaders from the HR & Learning Fraternity.
The sessions led to some amazing insights and realizations which I quickly noted down for future reference.?These notes have taken the shape of Wellness Sutras and can be beacon of light for anyone seeking health and happiness in today’s hybrid world.??(Sutra – Key).
If you want health and happiness in life, keep on reading........
Wellness Sutras from THE WELLNESS CONFLUENCE
- Mental wellness does not imply that you are mad OR Psychotic, it only means that you need to change the way your mind works and should be open to take help from Wellness experts. Wellness has many dimensions – Physical Wellness, Mental Wellness, Emotional Wellness, Financial Wellness, Social Wellness, Intellectual Wellness and Occupational wellness and we need to maintain a steady equilibrium between all of these.
- Sitting is the new smoking so we need to move every day. The pandemic made us all sit but now we need to move, life is about moving on – Johnny Walker also says Keep Walking ! The doctors also say that any healthy individual should walk for at least 7000 steps every day and once you start, take it to 10,000 in a week or so.
- Wellness budgets should be assigned in organizations and wellness KPIS and KRAs should be a part of the performance review system. The HYBRID and WFH Scenario is going to grow and hence the focus on wellness also has to grow in organizations.
- Leaders should have strong inbuilt empathy and compassion in their DNA. If this is missing, organizations will have to either change the DNA or change the leaders.
- Leaders should run their daily/weekly meeting with a different tone and tenor and always start meetings enquiring about the wellness of the team members and their families. This is very helpful in building long term trust and camaraderie in the team.
- Build a culture of support in the organization, be vigilant and see if anyone is exhibiting symptoms of stress. If we have be happy, we need to ensure that people around us and in the society are also happy. Take care of others, life is short, spread love and happiness around.
- Wellness Washing – When wellness becomes a tick in the box for an organization and is more of an eyewash, it is called Wellness Washing. You can do dishwashing or car-washing but never ever do Wellness Washing :)
- Moodometers and Wellness Bots are the new entrants in the Wellness Arena now. Technology, AI and Blockchain are going to change the wellness paradigm and we will have to view the world differently. TechMahindra is doing amazing work in this area and has employed technology to create wellness. Their moodometers are GDPR compliant and ensure that the individual identity is not exposed here.
- Fitbit watches, wellness apps and more tech jing bang will play a larger role in the in overall wellness setup. Technology can create problems and it can be an enabler, recent world events are a testimony to this fact. Drones can be used for weather forecasting and can also be used destruction in suicidal mode.?
- If your body and mind mechanism is not well, even Switzerland will be like hell and if you mind and body is in perfect shape, you will be happy and blissful even in the Black Dolphin Prison in Russia.
- An Annual Health checkup is very important but if you discover an ailment which needs some surgical or medical procedure, always take second or third opinion from Senior Specialists working in the Government Hospitals like AIIMS, PGI or others. Private Hospitals in India have become business centers looking at EBITDA and Gross Margins and people have become commodities, and this is a universal truth. We all need to make sure that we do not become a business item in an excel sheet or Powerpoint decks of these folks.
- Gratitude is very important in life. A low Gratitude Quotient will decrease your vibratory frequency in the Universe. This will further lead to a decrease in your overall immunity and will impact your overall health. ?Be Grateful and improve your overall mental and emotional happiness.
- No person is bad or toxic – If a person behaves in a manner which seems toxic and rude, please understand that this behavior is due to stress in their body and mind mechanism. Lord Krishna once said, "Anger is not a strength but is a big weakness Parth" (Parth-Friend)
- If you listen to your body when it whispers, you won’t have to hear it scream. Taking care of one’s body and mind is very important. Without health, even heaven seems like hell and with perfect health, you can create heaven even in the most underdeveloped remote region in the world.
The above Wellness Sutras if implemented can bring in Health, Wellness and happiness in one's life.........You only need to take the first step and then 10000 steps will also happen.
“It's all a series of serendipities with no beginnings and no ends, such infinitesimal possibilities, through which love transcends.”
Note : If you have a medical condition, kindly take doctor’s advice before trying any exercise even walking.

1 年Very well articulated Guruji. You always been a very vital source of providing inspiration and motivation. To add on what you said, One more very important aspect is can our mind maintain happy and peaceful attitude when we meet different kinds of people throughout the day. When we cultivate the 4 yogic attitudes of Maitri, Mudita, Karuna and Upeksha we train ourselves not to be so susceptible to exteriority. And from here we can begin to truly care for ourselves and work towards all that which is our highest calling.
Helping HR leaders drive exceptional retention and a thriving culture through powerful lifecycle insights. Our clients see measurable improvements in engagement, satisfaction, and long-term organisational success.
