10,000 hours #TBT

It's a short one today, but remember that 10,000-hour thing. Vaguely, it’s the time it takes to master something, maybe. Working on materials for a possible book in the future, I have been gathering index card notes, decks, post-its, and so on. I stumbled across the words and pictures while researching my 5 Slide Rule? deck (a future post).

There is something to the 10000-hour rule: a couple of the books not on the book slide (a previous post) outline the roughly defined aspects for the 10000 hours. The essential thread is this: talent is overrated (a book also). Fascinating, deliberate practice and brutal, direct, and precise feedback are underrated.

For well over 10,000 hours, my teammates sometimes provided brutal, direct, and precise feedback. Not to crush my spirit; oftentimes, it had that effect. Instead, they found many ways to ensure I understood what was at stake, learning to lead, follow, and get out of the way. Teams make leaders, not the other way around. IYKYK.
