100 Years Later: Honoring the Past and Preparing for the Work Ahead

100 Years Later: Honoring the Past and Preparing for the Work Ahead

Today marks the 100th anniversary of the adoption of the 19th Amendment, granting women the constitutional right to vote in the U.S. and leading to the designation of Women’s Equality Day. Today is not a celebration, but rather an opportunity to reflect and learn. We acknowledge how far we’ve come since 1920, but we must have the passion and resolve to do the work still left to do. It’s our privilege to lift up those who were silenced along the path to justice and to honor their legacy.

The work of Ida B. Wells, Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, and countless others for women’s suffrage is a monumental part of our history. It is imperative we exercise our right to vote — not only to make our voices heard, but to honor the effort it took to get us where we are today.

To help get out the vote this year, Eventbrite is partnering with HeadCount, a non-partisan organization that registers voters at events, creating an in-product ticket option to drive voter registration and education. In partnering with HeadCount, we’re equipping our event creators and ticket buyers with the resources they need to ensure their voice is heard.

We honor the legacy of the women who came before us, acknowledge the fearless female leaders at our company, and recognize the resilient female business owners on our platform who are using Eventbrite to inspire good and educate others.

While we recognize our progress over the last century, 100 years ago the fight did not imply freedom of the vote for everyone. Black women, indigenous women, and women of color continued to be blocked from voting booths.

We must do better together and continue to fight for equality for all regardless of race or ethnicity. Let’s come together to empower, educate, and bring the world together through positive change.
