Some will discuss art as release. Some will say art is a way to leave your worries behind, encompass yourself in something outside yourself. But in the world today, art is medicine. Art is salve for our hearts and minds.
?That’s why, for all it’s faults, television, social media and the new media landscape is possibly what will save us. Yes, you have to search it out, but there is a massive trove of amazing art being created in a multitude of new mediums. The expanse of artistic opportunity is widening at a fever pace.
The arts are always underfunded, underutilized and under fire for free expression. Soon enough, the arts may be under even more fire. Our world is changing in ways we haven’t experienced. The reality is that without art in this moment, we might not survive. The people need release.
I know, it seems slightly over dramatic. But consider your life without your talkshow in the morning, your spotify channel, your netflix binge, your podcast obsession, your favorite instagrammers, that late night book. Doesn’t sound very inviting.
So, why does art matter? Because frankly, we don’t exist without it.
