100+ Students Participated in the Third Student Symposium to Discuss Just-Energy Transition

Bali (12/11), More than 100 students and NGOs from Bali gathered at the third Student Symposium, taking the theme of Youth Inclusivity in a Just Energy Transition. The event was organized by Sustainability and Resilience (su-re.co) in collaboration with Green School Bali and took place at Sangkep, Green School Bali this November 12, 2022. Driven by the vision and mission, su-re.co aims to establish inclusive access to sustainability training for further contribution through the Third Student Symposium. After being held online in 2021 due to the pandemic, this event marked the first time the student symposium was held in-person. This student symposium aims to increase youth involvement and understanding in sustainability concerns by disseminating knowledge from various viewpoints. Representatives from Center of Renewable Energy (CORE), WRI Indonesia, Electric Wheel, and Negeri Matahari attended the event. All the panellists shared their projects to inspire the youth to start their projects to solve sustainability issues. su-re.co as represented by the CEO and Founder, Takeshi Takama, shared about su-re.co ongoing projects on land use, climate change and energy transition, such as LANDMARC and TIPPING+.

"We believe that young people, like these students, have brilliant ideas, so through this student symposium, we hope to increase the participation of the younger generation in solving environmental problems," said Takeshi Takama, CEO of su-re.co.

Participants of the third student symposium had the chance to delve deeper into their understanding through engaging panel discussions. The significance of young participation in the execution of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and implementation related to environmental sustainability were major discussion points. The participants' high enthusiasm demonstrates their keen interest in helping to address environmental issues, particularly those related to energy.

This third student symposium also provided the opportunity for participants and event sponsors to showcase their projects or work on solving sustainability issues. Two student groups and six organizations displayed their projects in the exhibition before and after the Student Symposium main event. The projects on display ranged from clean water, energy, marine conservation, technology and plastic pollution. The visitors' enthusiasm was so contagious that it created new potential for student cross-school and event cross-organization collaborations.

?"This is a rare opportunity for students like me to learn and present my ideas in front of experts. I am also very happy to be able to share about my project to help address environmental issues and build relationships with other students who have similar projects." Oka Nathanjaya, Third Student Symposium participant

The Student Symposium will still be an annual event in the years to come. In conjunction with the 7th Sustainability and Resilience Workshop, which will be hosted by su-re.co in the upcoming months, this event is a part of the series.
