100 Photowalks!

100 Photowalks!

I was filming in beautiful downtown Placerville, California when it hit me: this was the 100th location we'd brought the PhotowalksTV cameras to since starting the show, which airs Sundays at 3 p.m. ET on Scripps News and YouTube.

I put a video together outlining some of the highlights--and wacky on the road experiences producing a series on an iPhone has afforded me, which I hope you'll take a look at.

It all started on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, where I wanted to test my theory that a travel show with a smartphone tips twist could resonate with viewers. I heard back loud and clear that the answer was yes, and began churning out many episodes, mostly based in California, as it was easy for me to drive over to film.

I left my old job as tech columnist for USA TODAY on January 4, 2021 to focus full-time on Photowalks in the midst of the pandemic, which gave me time to work on editing and prepping new shows. Eventually, we got back out onto the road, and started spreading out, geography wise, with episodes in New Mexico, Spain, France and eventually, the entire western region, with shows in each state: Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Arizona and more. We've touched ground in 17 states and 7 countries so far.

In October we began our association with Scripps News with an order for 6 shows, and expanded episodes to the half-hour TV format. In January the show was renewed for an additional 30 episodes.

Each entry on the list counts just as just one visit. So even though we've done over 15 episodes in San Francisco, the city by the bay only counts once.
