Part 1: 100 Days of Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses: A Personal Review and Future AI Possibilities

I've been wearing Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses for over 100 days now. They accompany me almost daily and have even joined me on three international trips. These glasses have quickly become my favorite wearable tech. In this three-part series, I'll share why I love them and explore how AI could elevate their capabilities:

Part 1: The Joy of Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses

Let's start with the basics: even without their smart features, these are excellent glasses. Their stylish yet inconspicuous design is what I love most. They blend seamlessly into any environment, from Silicon Valley tech hubs to social gatherings elsewhere. No one has stopped me and asked what I am wearing, and those in the know simply compliment me with “Nice glasses.” The transitional lenses adapt to both indoor and outdoor environments, and prescription options are available.

The glasses fit my lifestyle perfectly. I started wearing them for my biking commute, and they immediately became my go-to choice, because they ingeniously combine headphones and sunglasses. The open-ear audio allows me to listen to music or podcasts without disconnecting from my surroundings. Voice commands make volume control effortless while I navigate through neighborhoods with various noise levels. Surprisingly, despite not normally wearing glasses for work or study, I often find myself using them at my desk because the open-ear audio provides decent privacy in the office.

The glasses' excellent battery life is another reason I wear them so frequently. Unlike my smartwatch, which often runs out of power at inconvenient times, these glasses have never been out of battery when I've needed them during my 100+ days of use. The website says the glasses have a battery life of up to 4 hours for moderate use, but I rarely experienced the constraint. This reliability is likely because I've made a habit of returning the glasses to their portable charging case when not in use, and the case charges quickly. Moreover, I'm more inclined to carry this charging case than my smartwatch charger because it also protects the lenses from scratches, making it doubly practical.

Finally, as a new parent, I've found the glasses' hands-free photo and video features invaluable. They allow me to capture many precious, fleeting moments with my child that I might otherwise miss. For instance, when my kid tasted frozen yogurt for the first time, I captured their delightful reaction on video while feeding them with both hands. Without these glasses, I'd have been fumbling for my phone, only to realize the moment had passed. Instead, I could fully focus on being present with my kid, knowing that the memory was safely recorded.

If you've tried a pair of Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, I'd love to hear about your experience in the comments below. How have they impacted your life?

I'm interested to see the rest of the story. I have used wired and wireless models but so far they have are still weird, heavy, with little autonomy and still with limited applications and a UX that needs to improve a lot. I'm excited about the new possibilities that smartglasses will bring to our daily activities, and I'd love have them taking my phone out of my hands so, like your example with your baby, I can use them in a more productive and natural way. Thanks for sharing.
