100 days to Camp

Today marks 100 days until the first camper gets off the bus at Scouts Canada Camp Opemikon's composite summer camp. I wanted to take a moment to state how proud I am of the team working to make our 86th summer camp season a reality. For the team at Opemikon and Scouts Canada as a whole, summer camps are a product space we should own. For our scouting members, our summer programs represent a chance to try new adventures, challenge themselves in new ways, and exercise their leadership skills with their teams. They then take these experiences to share with the youth in their local groups. For our non-scouting members, it provides a chance to showcase the best parts of our programs: getting outside, making new friends, and going on adventures. It provides the best parts of our year-round programs in one amazing week.

In our second year of rebuilding, we are 72.5% to our target registration goal for this season with 100 days to go. Today’s status represents a 112% increase in registrations from our 2023 season total to date. We have a lot to be proud of. After our 2023 season, we implemented key lessons learned.

Further highlights to date:

1. We passed our 2023 total booking count 25 days after going live for registrations.
2. We increased our time to market by 77 days.
3. We ran a staff recruitment campaign that saw over 168% more applicants than in 2023.
4. We expanded our product offerings and aligned existing ones to market segments resulting in sold-out programs.

This is the first year for me leading the team support Camp Opemikon. The best part of this journey for me is watching all the volunteers and staff put effort into making our programs accessible and meaningful for no benefit to themselves. They do this for families they will never meet and youth whose names they will never know. They do it so others can have the chance to experience life-changing opportunities, and I think that’s amazing.
