100 Black Women, and My OWN Delilah Journey

I am honored and humbled to be recently invited to join the National Coalition of 100 Black Women. In addition, I am excited to serve on the Charlotte Queen City Advisory Council for the NCBW organization for the betterment and advancement of black women and girls around the nation and in my home community, Charlotte. Equally as exciting, the NCBW Charlotte Chapter has recently partnered with the Oprah Winfrey Network to highlight the authentic experiences of black women and their journeys in the Charlotte community as a part of the new OWN "Delilah" series that launched in early March. It's incredibly cool to see these strong black women role models in action making a difference in so many ways.

Warner Brothers Studios and Harpo Films are producing the new OWN series, Delilah, which is a legal drama series highlighting the stories of authentic black women in the Charlotte community. As part of this initiative, I am sharing my “Delilah story” with OWN. I had the privilege of attending the "Delilah" virtual premiere with the cast starring Maahra Hill and Jill Marie Jones, the incredible writers Charles Randolph-Wright and Craig Wright (series including Six Feet Under, Lost, Greenleaf), Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles, the Charlotte NCBW leaders, City Council Members and the Carolina Panthers. I am blessed and fortunate to be a part of this incredible initiative with an opportunity to have an even greater impact on the future development of our black female leaders.

As I continue on this life journey I want to recognize my late parents. They were incredible people who fought their entire lives for civil rights for blacks, women and others across racial and gender groups. This had a profound impact on me and has given me a platform in which to give back endlessly. I want to thank my family, friends, co-workers and supporters across all facets of my life for giving me the courage, encouragement and strength to do what I do every day. As another chapter of this story, I am looking forward to participating in the OWN See Her Campaign centered around Own Your Health, as another way to highlight challenges and issues that need to be addressed and cared for in the black community. More to come on this exciting initiative.

Thank you to [24]7.ai for your support and donation to the first Girls Tech Summit on April 17th to support National Coalition of 100 Black Women on my behalf.

I am grateful to Women Executives and WINGS for the support as a member over the last ten years serving on the Board of Directors in different capacities and as a long time Mentor to our Scholars. With the mentorship and scholarships we provide, many deserving women have achieved their lifelong goal of earning their college degrees in Charlotte.

Somehow this all takes me back to our time together on a plane from Barranquilla to Miami. Your story, experiences, family impact - their influence on your life and how you chose to use them and now share them on a public stage. Wow! Excited and proud to watch what happens now. A life well designed...
