10 Years at Michelin: Thank You

10 Years at Michelin: Thank You

Working for Michelin has been so much more than just a job; it’s been an opportunity to be part of something greater than myself.

In 2013 my career at Michelin started in the Truck Supply Chain. I learned quickly coming into a large organization, mid-career, isn’t always an easy transition.?The learning curve was longer than I expected, taking two years to understand just some of the complexities of the Supply Chain. By the third and fourth year I was growing comfortable. I knew the processes, systems and people.?Things were good.

#selfdiscovery

I found myself on a journey of self-discovery in 2018. I was asked to accept a position that would use my skills as a process oriented Six Sigma Black Belt. I would work on a team focused on helping various parts of the business as a Progress Advisor. My role would be to assess problems and help teams work towards solutions.

The job was offered to me as an opportunity to grow. In this role I would be integrated into parts of the business I had no experience in. This would help me see the bigger picture of Michelin.

Understand, my world at that time (10 years before Michelin and 4 year in Michelin) was very Supply Chain. I was extremely comfortable in the Supply Chain. The thought of doing something else was not just uncomfortable, but scary.

What if I fail? What if I don't fit?

I never expected that pivot in my career would turn into the amazing journey it’s been.?

Within the first few months in Progress, I realized I had strengths I didn’t know I had. Although it wasn't easy at first, and it didn't take long to find out, I was pretty good at facilitating meetings and team workshops. After two years, the fear turned to excitement. Facilitation became second nature. I was building workshops from scratch to meet the needs of the business. I was working on the progress initiatives across the business lines. I enjoyed learning more about Michelin. Most important, I was working autonomously and I had built trust and credibility. People were asking for me to work with them and help their teams.

After two years in that role, and almost four years ago, I landed in my current role as Leadership and Team Development Manager. If you were to tell my younger self what I would be doing in the future, I would’ve easily answered, “I will be in Supply Chain for the rest of my career”.

How curiously and wonderfully wrong I was.

For almost four years I have been part of a team that helps to train, build and support current and future leaders. This is such an inspiring task to have on a daily basis.?At any company, leadership plays a pivotal role in shaping the company's culture and values. This holds true to Michelin.

Great leaders aren’t made over night, they are developed over years.?I have a job that allows me to develop and then watch people evolve into the leaders of tomorrow.

The passion, integrity, and commitment of these leaders trickle down to every level of the organization, creating a sense of unity and purpose. You can see employees are motivated to align themselves with Michelin vision and contribute to the company's success.

Above is how I got here, but I still ask myself, "do you really belong here?".

In the later part of my career, I found my calling. People gave me chance to do something different. Someone saw something in me and took a chance. I'm learning and growing every day and this job has filled me with a passion the drives me.
