“Time flies!”, Lindsey exclaims after being pointed out that she has been in the company for 10 years. Lindsey, a cheery and warm-hearted colleague in one of our Contract Logistics warehouses, initially joined the company as a Quality Inspector (i.e. someone who visually inspects the pallets stacked by the order pickers) and over the years developed to Supervisor Warehouse. “When I started my job at Kuehne + Nagel, I quickly had the feeling that it’s a good company to work for”, she says. If anything, her 10-year job anniversary and career development are the proof that she wasn’t mistaken.
Lindsey has always worked in the warehouse, where quality and timeliness are key. It’s a race against the clock to get the right products safe and sound out of the gates of the warehouse, and on their way to their destination. Team work is essential to beat the deadlines, and as a motivated team player Lindsey was a great addition to our warehouse crew. “I always look further than just my own job description to see where I maybe can help out. That’s probably why soon after I started I got the chance every now and then to be a backup for others with more responsibilities.”
These signs of trust confirmed her suspicion that - with the right mindsets and work ethic - Kuehne + Nagel is a stimulating work environment that fosters its employees’ professional growth. When after the implementation of a new big customer the warehouse was in need of new Foremen, Lindsey was a logical internal candidate. “I applied for this position as it would be a great next step in my career, and I was very happy to hear soon after my application that I was hired! As Foreman I supported the implementation of our new customer while getting used to being in a leadership position”, Lindsey explains. “From that role I eventually developed to Supervisor, steering my own team of Foremen, which is what I’m still doing today.”
Together with a team of about 20 people, it is Lindsey’s responsibility to process the inbound and outbound volumes of our customer’s goods. This entails, according to her, a lot of preparation and organization. “Each day I check the volumes that have to processed and I evaluate the performance of the day before. A large part of the job is also coaching the foremen who help me get the work done for our customer.” Trainings offered by the company, helped Lindsey along her development path to become a true people manager. “Motivating people it is definitely the most difficult aspect of being a people manager, but I learned from experience and from extra trainings offered by the company how to best approach this, and I’m really happy about where I am today”, she concludes.
