10 Years as a Geek Squad Agent

10 Years as a Geek Squad Agent

I recently celebrated my 10th anniversary of being a Geek Squad Agent.

In 2005, I started out as an in-store Counter Intelligence Agent at the local Best Buy. By the end of the year, I was cruising the neighborhoods in my black and white Geekmobile, providing on-site assistance wherever our clients were as a Double Agent.

After 5 years in the field, I moved into the virtual world of online support, helping clients with their technology as a Covert Agent Dispatcher, Fulfillment, Partnership and Quality Assurance Agent.

In that time, the technology has changed dramatically. The focus of our work progressed from heavy desktop computers, to lighter laptops and notebooks, to tiny netbooks, to smartphones and tablets. Today, I'm just as likely to help a client with a question about getting their smartwatch to talk to their connected thermostat.

Along this journey, I've been faced with plenty of challenges in my roles, but also an amazing number of opportunities to stretch my skills. From being a media spokesperson for the company and speaking about technology with newspapers, websites, radio and TV, to helping provide support for our clients through social media, and providing business ethics advice as part of our Agent of Justice team.

Two things have consistently helped me in these ten years. A passion for talking technology, and pride in the culture behind this 20 year old organization of Agents known as Geek Squad.

To the next 10 ...
