10 Years Blogging but ..... The Song Remains the Same!

10 years ago I started blogging about the future of technology and real estate.

Looking back my thesis has not changed. As this line from May 2013 demonstrates:

'For those involved with commercial property you will be able to improve the way people enjoy and interact with the built environment.'

That has always been it, and will continue to be so. If we cannot do this then frankly why are we bothering?

The rest of that paragraph (below) could have been written today. And it would be 100% spot on. We're getting better, but we are so far off what is possible.

So I'm going to be continuing to bang this drum.

In the meantime, have a mooch around. And tell me what I got wrong:)

-------------------------------------------

'Because as more and more elements of the built environment become ‘wired’ then the way we relate to our surroundings will change. We will all be better informed about how the world around us operates, how we interact with it, and how we can make the most efficient, productive use of the world’s finite resources. For those involved with commercial property you will be able to improve the way people enjoy and interact with the built environment. And to a large extent it will the the responsibility of the commercial property industry to enable this step change. The great opportunity is that this connected world will enable the development of a wide range of services that can be provided on top of this wealth of real time data.'

?? U did not get anything "wrong". Just that this - about banging the drum - industry was like a self playing piano with a cash-outlet in behind ?? ? I've talked to so many CX-what-ever in CRE. They all have said more or less; * this transformation, digitalization, what-ever future opportunities, eventually, compete with * huge projects, transactions and leases with huge and fully predictable outcomes. Easy to understand. These CX's do what their boards say. And they do what their owners want them to... the rest is history (which I know you are interested in, art at least).? And now? I can feel the interest, sometimes confusion or even stress about the future business in #CRE (which is what I work with the most) in all new ways now.? Problem is; the industry still uses cookbooks from the past. Just spicing it up even more. Bells, whistles, perks and super-nicest-of-the-year-office-competitions. To be relevant in the future so many things need to happen. I believe in a major reshuffling of this industry now. #valuepropositions, including their extent (full stack vs commodity brick-and-mortar provider, etc), positions in all #valuechains, sharper focus on #markets and #cx (!). Thx for all interesting views Antony ?
