SAN MARIN WINS FIRST BOYS BASKETBALL SECTION TITLE IN 2011

During the 2010-2021 school year, I taught at a high school of about 1,000 students north of San Francisco. San Marin had never won a boys basketball section title until the one year I worked for Novato Unified School District. The 2010-2011 team was not expected to win.

During an eleven day stretch, I photographed four games that were decided in the closing minutes. The entire town seemed to support the underdog program, with fans running onto the court after several exciting victories. On March 5, 2011, San Marin defeated El Cerrito for the Mustangs first North Coast Section Championship at St. Mary's College.

Much has changed in the last ten years. Even if we were not living during the time of coronavirus, some of the key members of the team have not survived.

Ten years is a long time.
