A 10-year-old girl wrote a letter to Bates Technical College ...

Earlier this week, we received a letter from a student "J" who is interested in science and engineering. It is a positive highlight and I wanted to share with you.

Here's her text:

Here is my response ..

I received your letter today and it was a pleasant surprise. We do not get many letters from almost 10-year-old students who are as cool as you are. First, I want to congratulate you for your participation in the Excel program and to say thanks for writing us. I’m so glad you like science and engineering, these subjects make the world a better and safer place. Last, thank you for thinking of us as your destination college. It’s a great choice!

Please consider this letter an invitation to come to our campus and check out Bates Technical College. You can bring your friends and we can show you some of the cool things going on.

We have some new virtual reality stuff I’d like to show you. We don’t know what the world will use this for, maybe you can help us figure it out when you come here as a student.

We have a high school too, most people don’t know about that. You can be a student with us when you turn 16.

Here is a picture to show you our thinking and spirit . This person put LED lights on his shoes, and they change all sorts of colors. Believe it or not, the instructor did this to his own shoes. Please don’t do this to your shoes unless you have your parents’ permission.

Changing our shoes and doing lots of studying are the kinds of stuff he likes to do on his free time, so you can imagine what the class is like. He teaches Information Technology, which uses both engineering and science.

With kind regards, Josh

What a cool kid. You'll have to let me know how her campus tour goes - I hope she wears her shirt for it!

All this means is that I have 8 years to create a new science and engineering program at South Campus. I can't have you stealing all my best leads, Josh Clearman

Did you send the t-shirt? Sounds like it would be worn every week.
