10-Year Anniversary!

10-Year Anniversary!

This past year I hit the 10-year mark for working at United Planners.? I often tease my wife when she gets going down the rabbit hole, but this time it was my turn as I searched out what’s so special about a 10-year anniversary.? If we were talking marriage, google says 10 years is a BIG deal.? After enduring the typical hard year #1, making it to 10 means you’ve been through a lot and should not take this lightly!

"My Hero Zero," Schoolhouse Rock, 1973

Traditional gifts for 10 years are tin or aluminum, both of which are resilient and don’t rust.? But being a biking guy, I’d prefer lightweight smooth and fast carbon!

I’ve always been a “numbers guy”…? One of my favorite games is “Wits & Wagers.”? This game is all about numbers trivia.? You match wits by guessing the answer to a numbers related trivia question…? For example, when was the sliced bread maker invented?? (Make your guess… answer coming soon.)? Each person makes a guess, then you lay them out on the board from lowest to highest and place wagers on which guess is closest without going over.? For the sliced bread maker, which number would you wager on as the right guess:? 1866, 1905, 1928, 1937, 1946, 1950, or 1959?

In thinking about the number 10, another favorite from my childhood came to mind…? Schoolhouse Rock!? IYKYK and can complete these songs…? “Conjunction Junction, ____?”? Or how about, “Three, is a ____?”? When CD’s were a thing, we bought the Schoolhouse Rock CD and sang along with gusto.? Did you know that there wasn’t a song for the number 10?? Instead, they sang about “My Hero Zero” where you could add Zero to numbers and count toward “infinity, etc. etc., ad infinitum, ad astra, forever and ever…”

10 years… my longest tenured job ever.? 10 years that have been fun and enjoyable, otherwise I wouldn’t have stuck around!? At my firm, 10 years is about the median for employee longevity.? We have a lot of great folks here who found a happy home and have stayed for many years.

I offer a heartfelt thank you to my friends here in the home office and the advisors I work with in the field.? Thank you for your friendship and camaraderie.? “Glad to be here” rings true that we learned from Blue Angel John Foley many years ago.

As for my quiz above, have your ever heard (or used) the saying, “That’s the best thing since sliced bread!”? What you’re really saying is this, “That’s the best thing since 1928!”

Thane, congrats on 10 years being The Retirement Guy, it has always been a great collaboration. Also, a great graphic from Schoolhouse Rock although my favorite was always Naughty Number Nine!
