10 Year Anniversary - How it all started :-)

I can’t believe it: Wenger Engineering is 10 years old. :-) I am very happy we made it so far. And I am very grateful for the great team and the great customers we have – without them, our success story would not have been possible.

I am very proud when I look back on what we have achieved in the last ten years. At the beginning, I was everything: CEO, Chairman, President, CFO, COO, CTO, Head of Sales, Project Manager, Project Engineer, Secretary, Accountant and Janitor. Now we are a “real” company and have a world-wide reputation for Thermodynamics Development and Simulation, especially in Renewable Energy and Hydrogen.

It has become normal to have projects in Japan, China, Brazil or Silicon Valley. However, I am still amazed we even did a project in Antarctica. :-)

Most of you don’t know how I started, so here’s the story:

Back in 2007 I asked myself the question: "What am I going to do with the rest of my life?" While I was thinking about it, I saw a book in a supermarket bookshelf that had a title like “How to get rich quick”. I looked at it and thought to myself: “Getting rich quickly sounds good – I should start an engineering services company.” Really. That’s what I thought. I only realized later that negotiations with automotive buyers and ?get rich quick“ to not fit together… ;-)

Anyway: I started my company in some sort of business incubator on October 2, 2007. 24 square meters with a view on a “red light hotel”. The table, the chair and the shelf were borrowed. I thought: “It’s small, but it’s mine.” And it was cost-efficient…

After one year, I hired the first engineer, then an assistant on a part-time basis, then an intern (who has been with us as an engineer since 2011) and so it went on until we had a customer list that includes Daimler, Bosch, Siemens, Shell, Linde, NEC, Toyota and Honda. And some 130 other global market leaders, medium size family businesses and freelance inventors.

Last year, the renowned Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (which is something like the German equivalent to the New York Times in the US ;-) ) interviewed me about my career. The headline is “My first big investment was a flip chart”. Yes, I really thought that a flip chart is an investment. ;-)
