10+ Writing Rituals to Level Up Your LinkedIn Game

I've got a treat for you today. We're about to elevate your writing game with seven habits that will take your content and emails to the next level.
1. Be Concise
2. Avoid Repetition
Reiteration can aid learning, but avoid reusing the same words. Instead, explore synonyms or use analogies and metaphors to add creativity. For example, instead of “important,” try “crucial” or “vital.”
3. Use Active Voice
Active voice adds power and clarity to your writing. It focuses on the subject performing the action, making your message more engaging.
For example, “The dog ate my lucky socks” is active, while “The lucky socks were eaten by the dog” is passive.
Active voice eliminates ambiguity and highlights accomplishments.
Try “We implemented the XYZ program across 35 regions” instead of “The XYZ program was implemented.”
4. Use Bullet Points
Bullet points make content easier to scan and visually appealing. For example:
Option A:
“Writing is a skill and the only way to improve is through practice. Write something every day. It needn't be perfect. Eventually, you'll find your voice, your style, and your audience.”
Option B:
“Writing is a skill. To improve:
You'll discover your voice, style, and attract your audience.”
5. Show and Tell
Refer to points 1 and 4 for exemplars of this concept. Still don't get it? I'll explain. Showing and telling is the act of using concrete examples and visuals to illustrate a point, rather than simply stating it. It makes your content more engaging and memorable for readers.

For example, instead of saying “Networking is important,” show how networking helped someone land their dream client or grow their business. In other words, use real-life success stories or statistics to back up your statements.
Naturally, this engages the reader more and allows them to think about what you are trying to convey.
Another Example: Instead of saying “I am a hard worker,” say “I wake up at 5am every morning and put in extra hours at the office to ensure that all tasks are completed on time.”
6. Use Storytelling
Humans are wired for storytelling. We love hearing about other people's experiences and connecting with them through shared emotions and experiences. Incorporating storytelling into your content can make it more relatable and impactful. Try incorporating personal anecdotes or case studies into your writing. (See point 5's example.)
7. Use Data and Statistics
Backing up your content with data and statistics adds credibility and makes it more compelling. It also helps the reader understand the importance or impact of what you are discussing.
Example: “Our company experienced a 25% increase in sales after implementing the new marketing strategy.”
8. Write for Your Audience
Focus on your audience's needs, especially on platforms like LinkedIn. Understand their pain points and address them directly.
9. Delete the Fluff
Cut anything that doesn't serve your purpose. Stephen King suggests removing 20% of your writing. Try it, and your content will be more impactful.
10. Read a Lot (In case You Missed This Point Earlier)
Improve your writing by reading widely. Create a swipe file with quotes, headlines, and passages that inspire you.
Build One Writing Habit at a Time
Develop these habits gradually. Focus on one for 30 days until it becomes routine, then add another. Here are more tips to refine your writing:
