10 Web Developer Types

Web Developer’s come in an infinite variety. Below I’ll summarize 10 different types I’ve come across.

1- The Perfectionist

A leader, solid with technical and soft skills. All around this is the type that all developers aspire to be.

2- The Technically and Socially Gifted

A notch below the perfectionist, this is the developer who is an ambivert. They are technically gifted but not the typical stereotype of a web developer. These types usually have an opposite hobby to counter-balance web development, such as Mixed Martial Arts.

3- The Technically Gifted Non-Socially Adept

This type is typically the most gifted coder of them all. The negative is they don’t do well in team settings, but hey, who needs a team when you are the team?

4- The Business Objectives Come First

Someone who gets the job done without worrying about latest technologies or best practices.

5- The Code Comes First

Someone who cares about the code first and foremost even if it means missing deadlines.

6- The Team Comes First

Someone who has the ability to pick the team up when needed most, looks out for the team, and makes sure everybody knows what they are working on. This team player is essential in getting projects done.

7- The Delegator

This type has little technical ability but a strong ability to get the job done by delegating the work via outsourcing.

8- The Slacker

We’ve all seen this type and wonder “Why is he even here?"

9- The “What Am I Even Doing Here?” Type

He’s the one wondering “What am I doing here?”

10- The Ambitious Junior

Smart, looking to gain experience and end up as one of the above.

Obviously, most people fall into various categories of the above. These are just some of the types I’ve come across.
