I used to think I know how to write engaging content until I was drilled in content writing at a practical training session I attended. I was filled with hpes that I could write powerful content.?

But guess what, my writing sucks. In short, my content was far from engaging, not to talk of compelling anyone.

How did I know?

One of the training sessions I took majored on the topic of how to write engaging content. What I learnt was quite insightful and I’m super excited to share it with you in this article.?

Just as I've learnt, I will be sharing with you the 10 ways to write engaging content. I’m confident that this will help you become a better content writer. But that's if only you carefully read and adopt each of them in your content from TODAY. Are you ready?

Let's delve in.

10 Ways to Write Content Your Readers Will Fall in Love With

1. Write powerful headlines

First, to write engaging content, you must know how to write powerful headlines. The headline is the beginning of anything you write in a content.?

If you write a bad headline, the rest of your content won't be read. The moment people see your post, the headline is what engages them. It attracts them to either wait to read more, or to ignore.

That means that you must write your headline in a way that assures people that they will find what they're looking for if they continue reading your post.

2. Start with a powerful introduction

To write engaging content, your article must have a powerful introduction. You can start by asking questions. For example, “would you like to make 1000 US dollars as a content writer in Nigeria?”

Or you can begin with a story. Storytelling is one of the most effective ways of starting an article. Everyone loves to hear stories.

For example, “in 2012, I was a mere writer. But in 2013, I became the talk of the town with my writing skills. Something had happened. I had won awards and competitions just within a year, and today I'm making six figures with my writing skill. Let me show you how I did it.”

Or you can start your article with facts and figures like this: “Do you know that the internet is a powerful tool today because over 3.6 billion people are online.”?

These three powerful ways to craft your introduction will work wonders for you. Don't forget to tell a story, ask a question, or come up with a fact or figure, in the introduction of your content.

3. Be interactive and informal

To write engaging content, you must write like you're talking to your reader face to face. You should use language that is simple and easy to understand. Don't try to impress with big grammar. You're not Wole Soyinka. Go straight to the point, do away with fluff.

Here's an example of how to do that:

If you need to make money online, you will have to first bear in mind that there are no shortcuts. You will not achieve success unless you put in lot of time and effort.

That's very interactive, right? Yes, that's it.

4. Write for your readers, not yourself

As a content writer, you must learn to write only what you know people will want to read, not what YOU like to write. This is a discipline to live by if you would write engaging content.

You must tailor your content to your reader and use your writing to answer some of the questions you think they might have.

5. Write in subheads?

Today, the attention span of so many people are very short. So, you help them read on by creating subheads that give an idea of a new point in the article that they need to read. That way, they're taken from one flow of thoughts to another in the article.

6. Use short sentences and paragraphs

When you use short sentences and paragraphs, your readers are able to read faster and understand easily what you're communicating.?

If there's one thing you must keep to heart as you set out to write a compelling content, you must ensure your content is easy to understand. And you can easily achieve that when you keep your sentences and paragraphs short.

7. Use bullet points

Bullet point makes reading quick and easy. Using bullets points makes your content scannable for impatient readers who might need to focus on a particular aspect of your article.

Here's an example:

Follow these steps to become a content writer:

  • Attend ComsoyHub Training
  • Write regularly
  • Be determined

That's how to engage with bullet points.

8. Write the way you speak

This is important if your content will engage your audience. You have to picture them sitting before you. Or you see yourself as a consultant or a doctor attending to his patient. That heartfelt love and concern must be read in your content. If not, it doesn't engage.

9. Write clearly

Clarity is key to creating engaging content. Rewrite statements that seem hard to understand. Rewrite and rewrite till they're clear and easy to understand. If your reader spends five seconds before understanding an aspect of your content, then he might not be able to read it till the end.

10. Edit till you can't edit

You have to edit like crazy! Seriously, you can't overdo this. To write engaging content, there should be no room for typo or grammatical errors. How much you're able to write without grammatical errors says a lot about your expertise and professionalism.

No reader is interested in an error-filled content. You’d be seen as an amateur if your work isn’t thoroughly edited.

Final Notes

Writing is serious work. Writing engaging content is more serious. It is the difference between content that readers love and the one they avoid. So why write an article if it does not engage? To write engaging content, therefore, follow the steps explained above. Then watch as it attracts likes, shares and comments. In short, it achieves the goal for which you’ve written it.???
