10 Ways to Stop Depression
- Daily Self Care- Shower, Brush teeth and hair and wear clean clothes.
- Get enough Sleep- Make sleep a priority. Your body needs a good amount of sleep to recover from depression.
- Nourish your body with healthy food- Do not try to stuff painful emotions with food. Junk food will deplete you further.
- Avoid Alcohol and Drugs- Alcohol is a depressant. It will make you feel worse and will make it harder to recover. Drugs don’t help you feel powerful or in control of your life.
- Exercise- Even an hour of exercise per week can prevent and treat depression.
- Relaxation, Mindfulness, Meditation- Spend some time paying attention to yourself. Sit still, breathe and notice your body, thoughts, and emotions.
- Guard your thoughts- Interrupt negative thinking patterns by positive talk to shift your thoughts.
- Uplifting Distractions- Watch funny movies/shows, play with your pet, listen to uplifting music and dance.
- Set small daily goals- Get up and do something productive for a set amount of time.
- Talk to Someone- Friends and family can be wonderful. Get an evaluation, treatment, and support. Sometimes antidepressant are necessary for recovery.
