10 Ways Recruiters Can Earn: A Bit on the Side

Recruitment can be a hard game. Even the top billers can have a hard month. So whether you are rocking it or counting the coppers here are 10 ways to earn a bit of side cash that shouldn't get your sacked (you might want to check though).

1. Contractor payroll.

Payroll, umbrella services, accountancy services. It all boils down to one thing saving money on tax. There are some quality services out there that your candidates will appreciate being introduced to and many of them will provide you with an introducer's fee. Introduce your entire company and earn even more. If you haven't got your own contacts in this area drop me a message and I'll let you know who is paying the most and still offering a decent service.

2. Wealth Management.

Lucky enough to be dealing with high end roles? As with the payroll services there are lots of wealth management companies out there who will also pay significant referral fees.

3. Run a resume clinic.

Who is better than you to help people optimise their CV? Many job centres and universities will pay you to help their clients and students put together a stronger CV. You could even offer this service via your company. If you work for a smaller agency it's a great way to market yourselves to candidates.

4. Build resume websites.

All the rage at the moment is for candidates to have an online resume. Wordpress and sites like Create make it very easy to do. Only the smallest technical knowledge is needed but having the knowledge of what employers want to see is much more valuable.

5. Sell job boards,

We are back to referral fees but if you can recommend clients into niche job boards most will be happy to give you a tickle in return.

6. Launch an online course.

Comfortable in front of the camera? Create a series of videos on your chosen area of expertise and sit it on password protected site. Charge a small fee for entry. These are easy to market but harder to build.

7. Get some Ad revenue.

Okay number 5 might be out of most people's reach but getting a share of Youtube's ad revenue is much easier. It's unlikely you'll make a fortune but it is easy and has the added benefit of raising your profile.

8. Write a book.

Again, not for everyone but is there a subject you know better than anyone else? Get it down on paper. Collate your LinkedIn articles or get that work of fiction that's been knocking around head out there.

9. Leverage your LinkedIn connections.

10. Life modelling.

If all else fails your local art college is always looking for someone to take their clothes off.
