There are many fun ways to practice self-care for free. You do not have to drain your finances to take good care of yourself, be at peace, and nurture your mental health.

Self-care does not have to involve lavish spending for a luxurious vacation on a private island beach. In fact, spending large amounts of money for self-care can actually cause more stress than it relieves, and work against your mental well-being.

Relaxing, finding stress relievers, and as I mention in this video, taking care of your money is good self-care too.

According to a recent Mind over Money survey by Capital One and The Decision Lab,?77% of Americans report feeling anxious about their financial situation. So most people would benefit tremendously by using inexpensive cheap ways to self-care.

Here are 10 FREE ways to practice self-care.

  1. Gratitude list - Make a list of 50+ things you are grateful for. Add to it daily.
  2. Exercise - Walk, stretch, jog, run, swim, or hike. Exercising is a stress reliever and it can be free.
  3. Read - Lose yourself in a great book. Books are free at the library and on some online sites.
  4. Dance - Put on your favorite music and dance the day away.
  5. Engage in your favorite hobby - Whatever it is, commit to doing it free.
  6. Pray or meditate - Focus on spending time strengthening your spiritual life.
  7. Unplug from social media - Turn off the devices and live life without them for a few days. It will rejuvenate you.
  8. Write or journal - Writing your thoughts and reflections can be therapeutic and does not have to cost anything.
  9. Spend quiet time alone - Get away and relish in your own thoughts, by yourself.
  10. Take a nap - According to a recent study, more than 50 million Americans do not get enough sleep. Getting more sleep is critical to self-care.

The bottom line - It is ok to spend money on yourself. However, if you find yourself in a tight financial squeeze, you can still self-care for free in fun and effective ways.
