live concerts, listen together, in the car, during meals, watch interesting videos on the couch.

Help your child find opportunities to play with others: youth orchestras and bands in the community, jam sessions, summer camps
Help your child get comfortable playing for others: family concerts, community music clubs, playing for long-term care homes (which can even be done online these days), competitions like Kiwanis
Help them see the long view: investing in a musical education is a long-term prospect and it’s a great lesson in persistence!?
Be open to changing instruments or joining a choir: all music education is great, and if your child really loves the trumpet instead of the violin, try to follow their interest.?
Encourage them to have fun on the instrument, make up songs, play by ear, anything creative that may be in addition to the assigned work from the teacher.?
Buy them extra music, or find some in your library, or download music in the public domain: extra sight-reading will help them and may pique an interest in a different composer or style of music
Realize that some frustration is normal when learning something challenging, but be alert to your child wanting to cancel or avoid their lessons: this particular teacher’s style may not be the best fit for your child.?
