10 Top Tips To Make The Most Of Video Calls

  1. Ensure clear instructions for joining - make it as easy as possible for people to make the call
  2. Know how to use the software - there’s nothing more awkward than you struggling to screen share or your next call joining early and interrupting your close
  3. Ensure reliable internet connection- test it beforehand and look to change providers if you are consistently experiencing interruptions: it can be really disruptive and easily cost you a sale...
  4. If the connection is poor, turn off video - zoom prioritises video at the expense of sound. If your connection is struggling, switch off your camera.
  5. Check your audio preferences - if the audio connection isn't great or you struggle to hear one another, it can get very frustrating and waste valuable time.
  6. Wear what you would for a face to face call - it helps you get in the right frame of mind and keeps your standards in check.
  7. Be aware of what’s in your background - we’ve all done it! 
  8. Follow a structure just like you would in face to face - it’s easy for these things to slip and just turn into a ‘nice chat’.
  9. Make sure there are NO interruptions at your end (children!) - get cover so you can focus on the call, especially if it’s a sales call or you know the interruption will happen as you are getting commitment, totally disrupting the call.
  10. Be mindful of non-verbal communication - these are the indicators to show what your customer is really thinking. Make sure you are noticing and responding to their body language to sure a positive outcome for the call.
