10-to-1 | What Would Augment Reality..?
Inspired by the work of Luke Wroblewski, Product Director at Google (@lukew) here is the 10-to-1 of augmented reality #AR ideas. Add to the list of potential applications...what other applications could #AR have in your life?
10/ Augmented Reality Weight Loss
Scientists at Tokyo University have developed a working prototype of an #AR device that promises to remove the gimmick tag associated with many augmented reality applications. Named Diet Goggles, this pair of AR glasses was tested with several dieters and the results show a 10% decrease in food intake.
9/ Augmented Reality Price Check
This patent filing is supposed to be a blanket cover for lots of different potential applications, and Magic Leap isn’t necessarily developing any of them. But the basic (and most compelling) iteration is that when you visit a physical store, your augmented reality headset will scan products you’re looking at with a camera or RFID reader, then cross-reference them with offers from other merchants, and tell you if something is available cheaper somewhere else. It’s like exploring a mall or comparison-shopping with your phone, but totally frictionless and without (as the filing mentions) feeling rude about checking prices directly in front of salespeople.
8/ Augmented Reality Reviews
At the Augmented World Expo in Santa Clara, Calif., a South Korean app called Letsee uses augmented reality on your smartphone to scan a product for instant product reviews - watch the video here.
7/ Augmented Reality Conversion
A picture speaks a thousand words! Wish I had this...now...
6/ Augmented Reality Measurement

5/ Augmented Reality Identification
4/ Augmented Reality Education
Educators know that learning deepens, not just through reading and listening, but also through creating and interacting. With AR products like Elements 4D by Daqri, students can manipulate and combine elements right from their devices, rather than just reading about them in a textbook. Anatomy 4D is another free app by Daqri that allows users to explore a human body and isolate various body systems.
3/ Augmented Reality Driving
Driving is another everyday activity would benefit from AR. Navigation systems in apps like Google Maps or manufacturer-installed infotainment systems are common but they demand that you take your eyes and attention off the road. AR could solve this problem. Google Maps and Android Auto are great but they would be a lot better if the visual display was in your field of vision when you were looking through the windshield.
2/ Augmented Reality Directions
Apple has been granted a patent detailing an augmented reality mapping system that harnesses iPhone hardware to overlay visual enhancements onto live video, lending credence to its plans to implement an iOS-based AR strategy in the near future.
1/ Augmented Reality Explanations
Brands want to reach consumers at the shelf, and combining products at shelves with consumers’ phones will help them do that. These experiences can focus on the practicalities of how to use the product or recipe ideas, or can be fun, entertaining branded experiences that cut through the clutter of traditional shelf-edge advertising.

7 年Training is another big area where #AR can give a sense of realism to training exercises. In some cases, it may not be feasible to recreate a situation in real life, but using virtual reality is not an option. In such cases #AR can help bridge the gap between the real world and a training scenario. For example, it may not be safe for the military to use real explosives as part of a training exercise. However, it still wants its soldiers to be able to adapt to their current surroundings. As a result, #AR can allow them to simulate these special effects without creating a danger to the soldiers on the ground.

7 年Aviation -- pilots, especially in the military, have been using “augmented reality” devices since WW2, where gunsights used reflections to project a reticle onto the display. A plane’s speed and turn rate was also factored into how the reticle moved, allowing pilots to compensate for their aircraft’s movement. These systems became much more advanced as time went on, and were adapted to fit commercial aircraft. More recently, helmet-mounted displays which are directly in front of a pilot’s eye allows them to retain their situational awareness while being able to look away from their displays. The latest models also have an integrated night-vision function, as well as other features that means that the traditional ‘heads-up display’ would no longer be needed.
Don’t compete.Create.?? Stand with ????????
7 年Why not simply use it for watching my human interaction? At dating: Does she like me? At a conference: Does the boss really like my contribution (just let the device analyse his expression and compare it within a microsecond with similar expresions of five millions other white male superiors)? And please, Google: Implant the AR glasses devices into my retina and ears and help me injecting sensor chips: I urgently want to feel like a robot, not a human.

7 年VR Company Events Engage your candidates more deeply by sharing a 360-degree livestream and recording of both your internal and external events for those who may not be able to participate in-person. You can use VR videos for everything from your happy hours to open houses, meetups, hackathons, training workshops, conferences, CSR events and even office holiday parties. Unlike today’s video or webinar recordings, VR allows candidates to fully immerse themselves in the event and explore from all angles to get a full picture of the event as well as your office, culture and attendees, as if they were actually attending in-person. You can even extend your VR livestream or recording to capture the event setup and takedown, giving candidates an exclusive backstage, “behind-the-scene” look at your event, which can be just as interesting and fun as the actual event itself.

7 年A Day In The Life” VR Experiences Most candidates want to know what it’s like to work in the role they’re interested in before applying. It’s why many companies have started writing blog posts to get employees to share their insights into what “a day in the life of” a specific role may look like. With VR videos, you can go beyond words and photos and give candidates the ability to truly experience and see a role through the lens of an employee. Candidates can follow employees and get a closer look at what they would do on a typical day in various roles at your company ? from the meetings they attend to the projects they’re working on, and even the co-workers they hang out with at lunch. “A day in the life” VR videos offer a completely unique storytelling and brand experience to your candidates that will help you stand out from your competitors and, at the same time, help candidates self-select based on the content they watch, which ultimately improves your recruiting efficiencies by lowering the number of applicants who may not be a good fit.
